Beach before WDW--Help!

Our family of 5 is planning our first trip to Florida July 4th. We are staying on Disney 7 nights. But before we arrive at WDW we are staying at Satellite Beach for 3 days. I have 3 sons ages 17, 14 and 9. Is this a family friendly beach? Does anyone know anything about this area and the beaches there?

It is most definitely a family friendly beach. The water is great this time of year. If you want to watch surfing, go to the beach just across from Patrick AFB.

The sand is not as wide as at Daytona Beach or Daytona Beach Shores, but it is very good. Are you staying at one of the RCI timeshare places? Do you have specific questions?

We booked a room at the Ramada Inn Oceanfront Resort Satellite Beach. Will we be able to swim at the resort beach? My boys would also like to boogie board. I just want to enjoy the beach and relax. I read in some post about "red beaches". (I think thats what they called it) I don't know what that is but it didn't sound good.
