Hi folks!

I work at the Atlantic City Hilton Casino. Just found out today that the casino is throwing an end of summer free Beach Bash and concert on the beach on September 11th. I know we, as a country, need to move on with life, but am I the only one that thinks it's a bit, I don't know....funky (for lack of a better word), to have a beach party on that day?

I honestly do not see any problem with doing it that day it can also be looked at a a celebration of the lives of the people who lost theirs and a way to show we are still moving on with life and not stuck in a duldrum because of what has happened.

Never thought of it like that....good point!

at some point, we have to acknowledge that not everything that happens on that day is about that day anymore. did the casino pick that date on purpose?

I don't see anything wrong with it. I've been to several weddings, birthday parties, etc. on Sept. 11th over the last few years. I'm hosting a baby shower for my best friend this year on that date. It happens to fall on a Saturday this year, so I'm sure there will be lots of stuff going on.

Like GEM said, it's a Saturday. I'm sure all the banquet halls are booked for weddings. There will be birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, baseball games, end of summer BBQs--you name it. Let's just hope everyone has nice weather. :)

Not that I'm aware of. The Miss America Pageant will be in town that week, maybe they decided to have the concert coincide with that. I'm not sure.

You all make some good points though. I guess I just haven't "moved on"...LOL

I am a little surprised that this is happening in Atlantic City--the events of Sept. 11 seem to have more impact and resonance the closer you get to NY, although of course they affected everyone--but most of the people directly affected are in NY/NJ/Washington.
Our soccer opening day is Sept. 11. It's the first Saturday after Labor Day, so that's the way it happened to go.
The last two years my school has had a memorial ceremony out in the stadium at noon on Sept. 11. My guess is that in 2006 (it will also be on the weekend in 2005) they won't have one anymore because those students will have been in grades 4-7 when it happened and it won't have the emotional impact it did last year or in 2002.

You'd be wrong about that 1. I read in my paper back in june that Banquet halls all over the country were having a hard time convincing couples to marry on Sept. 11. And if they are booked now, its likely because they offered a really discounted package to get it booked. I actually know 1 person getting married on the 11th this year(though not well enough to be invited to the wedding, but that's fine), but i have to say though I wouldn't mind a beach bash on that date I can't say that I'd want my wedding anniversary on the 11th.

I am sure they are as booked as any other "normal" weekend especially since halls are offering discounts. Some people like to save money.

A long time ago scheduling anything on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor would have elicited a similar raising of eye brows. Maybe also the D-Day Anniversary. I guess in time, life does have to go on.

I think Sept.11 is a little different around here, as it hit so close to home. A friend of mine said just the other day that she wishes she would be in a different place where Sept. 11 is pretty much just another day. :sad1:

I see it as a celebration of life. Thumbing their noses at the terrorist who try to stop and scare us from living.
I feel that any carefree moment is a count against the terrorist.

Bad things have happened on almost every day of the year, but I don't see any reason to totally avoid doing anything fun or happy on those days forever. My FIL died on the 4th of July, but we always cookout, go to fireworks, etc.

I'm going out of town with a bunch of girlfriends for Sept. 11. At first I was a little leery of going on that weekend, but I figure we all gotta go on with life eventually. I'll acknowledge the day privately, as I'm sure the women I'm vacationing with will as well.
