beach at Nassau?

Is there a beach in Nassau that you can go to instead of booking an excursion?

I've read that you can take a Taxi to Cable Beach - it's very famous and supposed to be world class.

I was wondering about this too! Do you just ask the taxi driver to take you to cable beach and they drop you off? Are there places to use the bathroom or get food?
