... for those of you who value your flight attendants wearing 3 piece suits and being "very professional", DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT fly SWA!!!!

My cousin just returned from LA and a visit to DL. I asked her how she enjoyed her first SWA flight, her first comment to me was, "Well, they weren't very professional." I asked, "What do you mean they weren't professional?" She then replied, "Well, they weren't wearing their suits; they had on khakis and tennis shoes."

Now I'm the queen of cheap in my family and my cousin always calls me for the info on Disney deals but this was too much for me. So, I said to her, "Well, I would prefer my flight attendants to be comfortable on their flights considering we are hurling across space at 50 k feet in a tuna can with 300 other tempermental people on a 6 hour flight. The last thing I think my flight attendant needs to be worrying about is her pantyhose binding her around the waist or having a run in her hose. Just because the flight attendants were dressed more casually doesn't mean they can't do their job as effectively or more so than their "more professionally dressed" counterparts. I guess that's why every other airline has been filing bankruptcy and SWA has not; it's the maintainence of the appearances for everyone."

Needless to say I was very put off by this but thought I would warn others, flying SWA means your flight attendants are dressed casually. But if you enjoy your flight crew dressed to the nines then feel free to pay double or triple the cost of my flight to enjoy the clothes your crew is wearing.

Viva la difference!!

I saved about $600.00 flying SWA this year.

The flight attendants can wear potato sacks for all I care.

And if you fly my favorite airlines, Aloha or Hawaiian you'll find the flight attendants wearing (gasp) aloha shirts! As long as the attendant is trained on what to do in the event of an emergency, it's fine by me. Heck, if she was worried about what SW attendants wore, I would suggest she not fly Hooters Air!

I guess she would have RN's wearing whites and a nurse's cap too. As she may see the wearing of scrubs unprofessional...never mind the knowledge of today's technology they have :)

I love SWA!

Completely off topic...but my sentiments exactly...
I guess she would have RNs wearing white and a nurse's cap too

Don't get me started on the RNs wearing white deal...at my hospital, we (RNs) have to wear only green and white and under our ID Badge we have to wear a large sign that says RN (a placard about 3 x 4); something to do with being more professional because no one can tell who are the nurses and who is the housekeeping staff.
Honestly, what happen to good old fashion knowledge and skill? In my small rural area of Eastern Kentucky, most people I've met would rather their dr or nurse be more approachable (not the "white coat syndrome").

God bless SWA...I'll continue to fly them....

I'm 34, and I was telling my DS12 on our last flight, that when I was his age people dressed up to fly - even the passengers. My parents made me wear a dress, or at least dress pants. Thank goodness times have changed!

I understand that back in the day when ONLY the very well off could afford to fly attire was demanded by both the passengers and the staff.
Now that air is affordable to everyone the dress code has dropped accordingly.I love flying SWA with their very neat dress casual as I also dress for comfort sweats and mules (easy to remove for TSA).SWA also has great customer service as well and thats all that matters to this traveler.Get me to point A to point B as cheap and efficiently as possible.

Not only did Southwest save us hundreds of dollars, they were some of the nicest people we dealt with. From the customer service people who refunded our $500 to our credit card when we rebooked a way cheaper DING deal, to the check-in people, to the flight attendants... they made getting to Orlando wonderful. And I thought they looked very professional. Go Southwest. :cool1:

We are flying Hooters in January and I am wondering what do they wear? I am not adverse to a little competition but they are covered aren't they? :rotfl:

I would love to fly Hooters airline!

I might drive down to Columbus just so I can fly them to Las Vegas!

Do you wear professional clothes when you fly? Or was it your cousin that was complaining, if so does she wear only professional clothes when she flies?

No disrespect and I guess everyone can have an opinion about everything, but I would never thought to see this on the Theme Park and Attractions board, not sure how it relates or who would care. :confused3

not sure how it relates or who would care

Neither do I understand why people would ask questions about where to buy a name tag, questions about gym shoes, cigarettes, or other slightly off designated board topics. However, I had the feeling that this was a rather friendly board since these questions typically were answered without too much ado, guess I was wrong.

Its not just SWA that have less formal uniforms. We flew American earlier this month and the flight attendants were wearing Christmas sweaters. Very cute, but I honestly had to ask an attendant if they "worked here" before asking a question. I just couldn't tell - LOL. I didn't mind a bit

You can have your three piece suits - I'll take customer-friendly, on time service and reasonable prices any day of the week!

Ditto.

I'm also curious what they wear on hooters air?? Maybe my DH would let us go to WDW alot more often if we flew HOOTERS AIR. (HA HA) :rotfl: :rotfl:

You obviously did not research them. The casual/laid back atmosphere is what they are known for, in addition to low fares.

Personally, I'd hate to have them more dressed up than I am. :rotfl: Like another person said, I go for comfort all the way--I'm not going to wear a dress & heels while flying. Not to mention, they actually don't recommend wearing heels or nylons while on a flight--it can be dangerous!

i don't know if this is still true but when a friend of mine became a flight attendant a few years ago, she was able to write off everything about her appearence & uniform on her taxes because it was in her contract that she had to appear a certain way...so she wrote off everything from make-up to nylons...
