Be Our Guest or Kona for Breakfast?

I'm going to Disney in October with a friend and we currently have a 7:40 breakfast reservation because we want to be able to eat and get into MK early before crowds for good pictures and get on rides. However, we also want to eat at Be Our Guest if a reservation comes open for breakfast. So I am wondering from people who have done both which one is better as far a overall meal/value and experiences?

We haven't done BOG for breakfast yet (have a ressie for October though!) but we have done Kona. If you're hoping to get a jump on crowds I would try your dangest to get a pre park opening BOG reservation. Even if its not PPO it'll still be quicker than Kona. On our 2 trips to Kona we waited 20 minutes the 1st time for our table and 45 minutes the second time. So even if BOG is lagging or backed up, at least you're in the park and can adjust your plans on the fly but Kona, you're not even in the park yet if something goes astray. And I believe BOG breakfast is QS as well, so allegedly it should be faster than Kona.

If you are unable to get a BOG reservation you may want to opt for QS breakfast at your hotel or, if the Poly is where you are or want to go, Capt Cooks is really good QS. It might be better to prioritize a quick breakfast at someplace not as " fun" as BOG over getting to the park late.

We enjoyed both breakfasts but probably wouldn't do BOG again if it wasn't PPO. It's pretty pricy for what you get but worth it if you're also getting into the park early! We loved Kona (Tonga toast!!!) but as PP mentioned it's not quick. If you're wanting a really early start in MK, keep trying for a PPO breakfast at BOG. We were in and out of ours in about 30 minutes or so and riding SDMT before rope drop!

I eat Kona breakfast a lot, but I've only done BOG once and thought the food was mediocre. And if we're talking value, quick service food shouldn't be $24.

I thought my 8am BOG reservation was PPO, but they ended up changing the opening to 8am that day. With a 7:40 reservation at Kona, you should show up at 7:20, and check in as soon as they open (officially 7:30, but in reality earlier or later depending on when they're ready). You should be done between 8 and 8:30; perfect for a 9am opening, respectable for a last-minute change to an 8am opening. Poor choice for an EMH morning.

With the new welcome show, everyone is allowed into the park one hour before opening. So the days of empty park photos because you have a breakfast ressie are over. And since you already have a Kona ressie, that means you won't have to keep looking for another one. I vote Kona.

Sounds like BoG PPO will be your best bet, although the food at Kona is better BoG PPO will position you much better for your day at MK and is the most advantageous PPO restaurant for MK especially if you pre-order your food.

If you pre-order your food make sure to plant the person who placed the order on their magic band at the table and have another person go up to get their drink. They tried to deliver our food while I was up getting my drink and they had tried to deliver the food to another table which impacted our early morning PPO plans as we were just getting out as the horde arrived at 7DMT.

BoG will still work if they add EMM but not if they add morning EMH.

I would do Kona for a brunch rather than a PPO meal. Even with an early reservation, you'd be cutting it real close. As PPs said, it's not fast. But I love the food and I've had really great service there (just not speedy!).

Totally agree that BOG is only worth it if you get PPO so you can get a jump on the Rope Drop crowds.

For food we would pick Kona - we eat at Kona for breakfast every trip. We love it. But if you are looking to get into MK then BOG or any MK PPO ADR would do. We just love Kona food and coffee.

Thanks everyone! We are going to keep our reservation at Kona unless by some miracle be our guest opens up. Or just do a quick service to be able to get to the park early. We're hoping with us going in October and at the beginning of the week it won't be as crazy busy.

Love Kona. BOG has a nice atmosphere but the food wasn't very good. Not tasty and served cold.

Kona has better food, hands down. If you've never been to BoG and/or you want to be in the park faster - BoG might be a better choice (though the dinner experience is better as the Beast will be there). Keep stalking the BoG ADRs as they do tend to pop open for breakfast occasionally (less so with dinner)

Two options to throw into the mix based on somewhat recent experiences:

1. While not as good as the Kona Version, there is a version of Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's. Something I've done a couple of times is to get breakfast at Captain Cook's around 8:00am (assuming a 9:00am MK opening) and jump the boat to MK by 8:30am. That gets you a taste of Kona without the time spent (and, admittedly, service).

2. MK has recently had a bit of a delay in its surge I've found. If you arrive at least 15-20 minutes before park open, you can usually dart over to the Frontierland/Liberty Square bridge quite easily still (as many are watching the show from the central hub). You can then get over and knock out BTMRR, Splash and Pirates within a pretty short time frame - and the wait for Mansion and/or Jungle Cruise are still typically fairly short. So, you can easily knock out that 1/3 of the park before breakfast is over. Then, you could head out to do a late breakfast at Kona around 10:30am as the crowds start to come in (and save your FPs for the big items like Space Mountain/PP/7Dwarfs/etc.) around Noon.

If the only reason you want to go to BOG is for PPO, make a PPO reservation and don't check in. You'll get charged the $10 per person no show fee but you're in the park early. Make sure you get a Kona reservation for the same day but for 10 so you can get some rides In the go to Kona for breakfast.
