I am sure this has been answered somewhere, but I am curious about food for children under 3 at Be Our Guest.

Prices are listed for children age 3-9 .. does that mean you can order off of the kid's menu for children under 3 and don't get charged? Or does that mean they just expect the child to eat off their parents plate?

My guess is if you choose to order your 2 year old a kid's meal that you would still get charged (simply because I feel that giving kids under 3 a free meal would unfortunately be severely abused).

I have only eaten at buffet restaurants at WDW in the past with a toddler and that was pretty easy. The child simply was not charged, yet we were able to get plenty of food for him from the buffet.

That being said ..
What are the portion sizes for the kids meals? Just seeing if it will be worth it to buy a toddler a kid's meal at BE OUR GUEST.
Any suggestions?

I found the portion sizes very small for kids meals. I honestly don't remember what I got my 20 month old, but it included fries and she LOVED the fries. And yes, I had to pay for it.

Everywhere except buffets you can choose to order a meal for your younger child and pay for it or you can feed them off your own plate. While I have no experience with child size meals at sit down places if they are about the same size at quick services places they are not very big.

Kids under three are free because they eat off your plate-- not that they get their food for free

If you order a meal, you're going to pay for it. Buffets are the only exception, and CRT used to give a free meal to children under 3 as well. I'm not sure if they still do that or not.

The kids' meals at BOG are very small. My 8 year old eats like a bird and the pasta at lunch wasn't enough for her. It would probably be right sized for a toddler, though.

We ordered my 2y11mo a meal and he at the whole thing and my wife got his dessert :earsboy: you don't get it free just don't get charge if they eat of your plate or you split a meal.

my DGD, at 17 mo, shared off several of our plates and auntie shared her french fries and chicken nuggets from a different QS

KIDS UNDER-3 EAT FREE "411":
1) TECHNICALLY, there is such thing as a "kids-under-3-eat-free" policy.
. . . no where in ANY Disney brochure is this mentioned
. . . there is no such policy
2) But, when done per policy, they eat almost free.
3) And, based upon CM discretion, they can eat free.
4) The official rules:
. . . kids under three can eat off the adult's plate
. . . if they order anything, like milk, they are supposed to pay for it
. . . if they order any food, they are supposed to pay for it
. . . this is anywhere, including buffets
5) What really happens:
. . at buffets & AYCTE kids actually "eat buffet food free"
. . . . . . adults could get the food, instead and give it to the kid
. . . . . . the adult could claim it is their plate kid eats from
. . . . . . they might as well have a drink, for same reason
. . . . . . it's tough to determine it was theirs or their parents
. . . . . . thus, kids can have their own plate and beverage without charge
. . at non-buffet, servers can determine if they ordered food
. . . . . . it is easy to tell if they got a drink
. . . . . . the server usually charges for food ordered for the kid
. . . . . . the server usually let's the drink go, but not food
. . . . . . the server, at their own discretion, can charge for beverage
6) So, to wrap-up, in practical terms
. . . at non-buffets, kids under-3 eat without charge ONLY from parent's plate
. . . at buffets & AYCTE, they can actually take food from the buffet table or separate plate
. . . at all meals, items are ordered for the child "might" be charged for them
7) Please remember to add your child to the table count.
. . . if there are four adults and a child, that needs an ADR for five people
. . . this is regardless whether the child is lap, stroller, highchair, or regular chair
. . . also, if the baby makes six people, the AUTOMATIC 18% GRATUITY is in effect
. . . no automatic gratuity at CRT-HDDR-LUAU-BBQ, as tips are already included in the meal price
