Be carefule renting points to Newbies

i made ressies for a new dvc member, she said her points can be transferred, because they owned at the SSR and couldnt make ressies before july 5 , and after i had borrowed some points to make the ressies, here i just found out the dvc member hasnt even closed on the membership and she cant transfer me the points that i needed for my one night before the 7 month booking, now my borrowed points have to stay in my 2003 use year and i cant used them, now i have to rent the ressies or cancel the ressies and hope that someone can use the points, urgh, know i very short of points for my one night stay in jan. and have to rent them from another dvc member.
i even told her that this was a big risk if she cancels the ressies, never thinking that there would be a problem with the transfer of the points, until i learned that she didnt close yet and that was after i made the ressies. i even sent her a contract, upon her request and waited for a week before she got back to me with the contract.
Just be carefule some new dvc members dont understand the value of these points and how easy it is to lose the points if they dont follow thru their requests, but i guess they will learn when they actually own them.
sorry for the venting anyone else have a problem with renting/trading

Yeah, that sounds familiar--you can't transfer points until closing has occurred and for SSR that won't be until a few weeks before occupancy.

Have you considered asking the other member to make the ressie for you with her points? Even though she can't currently transfer, she should be able to make reservations with her points as long as it is for a stay after 7/5/04.

My closing is supposed to be April 1st, too. (I'm in the first building).
(I've got to remember to pay off the balance before next week ).

I offered the 2 ressies for cash and she said "no" that she was sure someone would take the 2 ressies. No she cant make the ressies for me because hers was using 28 points, mine is using 30 points, i cant transfer points because i already had transfers in my account.

oh, she also said they werent closing until june, and everything must have been a misunderstanding with ms, that she thought she could transfer the points.

our points are not a misunderstanding that we can say, ooopps, you wont have a problem selling the 2 ressies.

the plus they are for july 4th bwv preffered view

the minus its only one night, more points, not much time if someone else backs out at the last minute before they expire, and i have to rent points now to make my one night ressies.

We bought into SSR as well and I just realized I have no idea when we close. Why the rush to pay off before closing? Do we have to do that to avoid any interest payments? I wish it hadn't been so long since we purchased so I could remember all these details!

<font face="times" size="+0">the warning shouldn't be just limited to "Newbies". it's generally best to assume that the other party involved in the transfer might not necessarily know all the rules about transferring points (since there are way too many rules!). so, just make a point to know all the rules yourself, and also to ask the other member all the appropriate questions to make sure that their account is in a standing to accept transferred points, etc.
