I switched our reservations from CBR to AKL last evening and asked the CM about a deposit. She said, "Oh you're deposit is fine it will roll over to your new reservation. You're good." After we got off the phone, I wanted to make sure because the AKL is pricier so I checked. Sure enough, I had to deposit about $285 more before Monday or I would have lost the reservation.

So the warning here is to ensure that you pay the proportional difference in the deposit for upgrading a reservation that is at a higher cost than the original reservation and deposit - correct?

If you had a package then the deposit would have been the same. But it sounds like you had a room only reservation.

OP, I had this happen a few months ago, too. I upgraded my room only and there was no mention of paying the difference. I ended up canceling and renting DVC points so I don't know what would have happened. I never got anything about it.

We have this situation where I changed from a cheaper resort to higher cost and they had to put me on hold and go through guests services to make it happen due to availability, but they never asked for the difference which surprised me. Our reservation is still there just showing my new final balance owed.

Our new reservation showed as well. There was a little blurb that said we must pay the balance of the deposit by Monday. I plan to just keep sending payments each week so that it can be paid off before we arrive.
