Be careful what you wish for (Contemporary DVC)

It's kind of funny that some of us (including me) who were annoyed about the rule change regarding transfers [YES it's a change we bought in 2005] have now put that completely out of our minds in order to salivate over Contemporary Villas...

Just in general -- it's amazing that our species has lasted this long! :rotfl2:

Being a novice on DVC information, I want to applaud all posters on this thread. Thank you so much for your insight and information, it's great!!

I've read every one and am gaining DVC knowledge by each new post. I will be on of the VERY FIRST ones in line to buy an add-on at Contemporary Villas.

I personally believe there is no more valuable land anywhere in WDW than the land surrounding MK (GF, POLY & CR). In the future, including my kids and my grandkids future, I believe this will continue to be the most desirable location to stay in general. I think that after CRV sells out, which it definitely will, every year will see an increased value for this particular DVC ownership.

Don't get my wrong, I absolutely LOVE the quietness of OKW and the charm of BWV but I believe if you don't have any home points at CRV, it will be extremely hard to book anything there after the 7month window. By owning a large contract @ the new CRV, I will not have to worry about the rush for reservations. I personally believe that CRV will be very hard to book at the 7 month window and beyond. This is the prime example, IMHO, of buying where you want to stay. Just my .02

I just had to revive this thread,:lmao:
Lionqueen, it's funny that you revived this, because when I saw it I literally had just finished looking at the point charts for BLT and BWV and was thinking that BWV was such a better value that I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to buy at BLT or not. Right now I can't afford it, but I'm not going to buy until I stay there.

It is a good location, arguably a better location to EPCOT than BWV. Everybody talks about how the MK views are gong to be impossible to get. Given their price, I think they will be available within the 7-month point.

I started reading the thread and was like "why is this guy calling it Contemporary DVC, is he living under a rock". Then I looked at the date and laughed, makes sense. :)

I agree the point values are high, but the reason they are high is because the view is arguably one of the best @ WDW and people will pay/use points to get it. I do believe that there will be the occasional MK view available @ 7 months, but in general think it will be nearly impossible to get; only time will tell. If you figure out the number of rooms w/MK view then figure in how many owners @ BLT there are, I think even BLT owners will have to call in precisely at 11 months out to get that coveted view.

That said, we are staying in a 1br MK view for Christmas this year (yeah, I'm so excited I could burst) but the only reason we got it is because we woke up early and got lucky. By the time we ended our reservation, there were no MK views left for our time period. Granted this was the "first crack" at reservations for owners and I'm fairly certain we were all trying to get through to MS:lmao: But as time goes on, I think that view will be even harder to get, at least for any length of stay. Maybe 1 or 2 nights here or there, but that's about it.

Maybe in 2 more years I'll revisit this thread again and eat my words or gloat:rotfl2: Either way, I got my BLT dream and I couldn't be more pleased! I know you were one of the original posters when BLT was a CRV rumor, and I started saving in 2006 for this..now it's mine:woohoo: Good luck on whichever resort you decide and I'm sure you'll be as excited as I am whichever DVC you choose!!

Wow, the revival of an almost 3 year old thread! I looked at the dates and couldn't believe it. Interesting to read what people were thinking back then when it was just a rumor - now BLT is a reality and will open almost exactly on the 3 yr. "anniversary" of this thread.

My thoughts exactly! When a fellow DISer "released" (revealed would be a better word) the plans for BLT (previously CRV) the boards were rampant with discussion, anticipation and speculation. Now that it's a reality, I thought it would be interested to revive some old threads and see exactly how close we were to reality (or how far..:lmao:)

I STILL like CRV (Contemporary Resort Villas) better than BLT :rotfl2:

Yeah, I do to! They could have done TBL (Towers at Bay Lake) but the Piggie signature with Mickey ears is cute - I guess BLT is growing on me.

I think a lot of things in the current state of things will lead to some prime availability at 7 mon. at BLT. Looking back through this thread, I still think DVD has done the smartest thing to maximize this new destination--raising $$$/point at the same time as raising the point values at BLT. I've heard the rationale "a point's a point's a point" before, and agree. However, I think DVD had to raise point values for A) location but also for B) getting folks to spend more $$$ for this "prime location DVC" by forcing them to buy more points.

I enjoyed reading this thread after the fact. We didn't care for the BLT model rooms, but may stay there eventually. We happen to love SSR (stayed there twice)--agree it is a state of mind--one we enjoyed!

I thought one recurring theme that has come to light is the loyal followings at each home resort (we're AKV buffs, no doubt)--although the DIS does only represent a small portion of DVC owners, I'm sure many folks out there are perfectly willing to use their home resort at least 90% of the time (and if I'm wrong-oh well). When we first bought, I was gung-ho about staying at all the DVC's by our 10th trip, but after staying at our home resort, we're good there. Enjoyed the read, glad it was brought back.

I managed to go to the architect's website and see the design before they took it down. I copied the photo (as did many others) and made a little "DVC Home" signature thing. Here it is:

I decided to remove it when Bay Lake opened and I didn't have the funds to add on.

I own at BWV, and I really like that resort. If you told me I could trade even for BLT I'm not sure I would do it. I'd have to stay there first. Polynesian DVC? I'd make that swap sight unseen, pre-construction.

If possible I'll probably try to book our next stay at BLT. I think it would be nice to be right next to all the restaurants, and if we wanted to eat at another hotel we could just walk to the MK and take a bus. Very, very convenient.

and after all the trading is done they get 12 additional years of DVC accomodations. If the situation gets bad enough in the future, I suspect this is something that could be challenged on legal grounds.

OK, I realize this is an old post but how could there be legal grounds based around one contract ending earlier than another? For one thing, OKW got extended, and for another the contract ends when it ends, what is there to challenge? :confused3 Am I misreading something here?

No, I wasn't thinking.
