I just had a thought, I started collecting snow globes and I also collect floaty pens....Looks like I won't be getting any globes at the World because Lord knows I don't want to check them because they'll probably be in a million pieces by the time i get them back. Because don't forget, there's water in them.

And...I got my son a couple of those toys that you push the buttons and the stuff gets shot through the water, like a basketball game type thing, they will be staying home too

If you package them up they won't break in checked luggage. I've transported various different fragile items and they've always been fine with some bubble wrap as long as they're tightly taped.

I bought a globe once and had it shipped home, it arrived in perfect condition, so don't discount this option! Its also easier than lugging it through the airport. Floaty pens are easily packed in suitcases though I recommend putting them in ziplock bags in case the ink explodes.

There was a thread a while back about World of Disney shipping your items to your home for about $10. If you live out of state, there's no sales tax on your purchases.

Maybe someone has more info about this, but definately ask when you arrive. My DD5 collects snowglobes, too. She also collects mini Minnies 'cause she thinks it's funny.

We had a snowglobe shipped home last year. It was really nice not having to worry about packing it properly. If it broke, it wasn't going to be my fault!

I can't remember how much it cost, or if we paid tax, but it was worth it for me!

Getting Disney to ship things is a great and inexpensive idea. In May my Dad bought one of those train sets they have displayed everywhere, and had it shipped to his house in Pennsylvania, it cost either $10 or $12 and it arrived a few days after they returned home.

If you don't want to ship it, you could also have Disney pack if up for you and have it sent to your resort or to package pick up.
We bought a bonsai tree at Epcot last year. They packed it and we picked it up at package pick up on your way out. I was very well pack - to the degree that we were not at all concerned about bringing it back. They do this all the time, just them them.

Why not have Disney ship them to you? I do this with all my purchases, so I don't have to worry. They are insured and arrive about 3 days after you come back. The money spent on shipping is differed by the cost savings of the tax.

We took a snowglobe back with us in February to the UK. We put it with our suitcases on the plane and it arrived home in perfect condition!!!

You do make a good point though.

A lot of people are thinking about how to pack to go TO WDW, but not so much for the return trip. In order to ship things home takes a certain amount a pre planning.

:rotfl: That's the cutest thing ever. It's so random, but it really is funny...

....I may have to start my own collection, inspired by your daughter!!

Without reading all the posts on this thread, just let me make a suggestion. We shopped at the big Disney store at Disney Downtown once upon a time, and I purchased a large alarm clock with Mickey Mouse on the face of the clock. Since I didn't want to have to pack it into the car, we asked that they ship it to our home address. No problem.

I bet you could get items such as snowglobes shipped home as well, and I bet they would do a good job of packing them too.

Just a thought.

Shipping is great. No tax, and if purchased early in your trip, maybe a surprise when you return home, if later, a nice surprise some days after you return, nice memories.

DBF and I are HUGE snowglobe collectors. We always check them and have never had anything broken When you get to the airport have a "Fragile" tag stuck on it. :sunny:

We just had a Tink Big figure shipped home. It was broken and could have even happened if we would have brought it home with us.

I called they switched me over to Art of Disney and they were out of them but was assured they were expecting more and I would have the 1st one pulled. They sent it and it was fine .

Taxes would have been $8.13 and shipping was only $15.95 so for about $8.00 I didn't have to worry about getting it home at all and it was nice to have it come in a few days after being back.

It sort of took the let down of being home for DD as she was waiting for her package to arrive.

I would ship anything over putting a fragile item in my suitcase after watching how they treat the luggage at our local airport. We got a glass with Daisy on it and I took it on the plane. I would not send it through.
