I have not been doing Atkins but have been using some low carb Atkins type products.

No where's the rub = CHECK THE FAT CONTENT.

Even though they are low carb some are high in fat or sodium, so if you are NOT doing Atkins you can actually be hindering weight loss.

I had a 15 minute conversation with my nutrionist about this. She is not a big fan of Atkins did say it works great for some if down right.

If you're doing low carb, you NEED the fat. It helps your body metabolize the stuff that's sitting around already.

I don't know how it affects people on different plans though. I treat that stuff really cautiously........

Some low carb diets do not allow sugar alcohols either (Curves is one of them). Atkins products are full of sugar alcohols. Sometimes they hide them, though. If the sugar and fiber carbs listed do not add up to the total carbs, the rest are probably sugar alcohols. Just a side note, sugar alcohols are absorbed into the blood stream slowly, so they are ok for diabetics, but they still go to the bloodstream as sugar. That's why some plans don't approve of them. Always good to stay on your toes!

They can be especially detrimental to those on South Beach. Too often, SBD'ers confuse South Beach with "low carb" and will grab any Atkins products they see. As a result, they take in too much saturated fat.
