When we returned our car this morning, I looked it over and discovered they had charged me for a luxury van and a tank of gas - National. Should say that we had filled up our tank the night before, but it read just below the F line when we arrived at the airport.
When we arrived 8 days ago, there were no mid-size SUV's in either National or Alamo, so the young man took us to the Alamo van aisle and told us to take any one we wanted - had a Pontiac Terrazo all week, very loaded and very comfortable but much more pricey than the car we thought we were getting. I always keep my original rental papers with me - took them over to the lot office in the garage and waited for them to change the charges back to our agreement. Took some finagling on their part, but I have the updated charges, and they had to make them agree with their original price.
They were very nice about it but I am sure they also had to give in to many others since there were so few cars available.
Always check before you leave your returned car - it does pay to be prepared and informed. Caroline

Yes and as you leave the lot try to get the lot hand that told you to take the car (UPgrade) and The Gate person to HAND note it on agreement not just the computer .This will help in the end when it wasn't switched like it was supposed to be.

In addition, read your rental statement before taking the car, to be sure you did not accidentally sign up for coverages or tankfuls of gas you really did not want, and that you are sure of what geographical area you are allowed to drive in..
