Be a DVC member (resale contract) and cruising DCL

I know that if you have bought your DVC in the resale market after Mar 2011, you are considered different in the way that you cannot use your points to book a DCL (+ several other restrictions)
Now my question is, I know if you cruise as a DVC member (using points or cash) you get those "Welcome Home" magnet put on your stateroom door and you get invited to a DVC party as a DVC member.
Will these little gestures continue to happen if you become a DVC member that had bought a resale contract after Mar 2011 ?
So in essence, will I be treated differently as a "resale" DVC member while cruising (using cash) compared to a DVC member that had bought direct from Disney ?
Thanks ! I would think no difference but just want to be sure.

Once you board the ship, I believe you would be treated the same as any other DVC member. The direct vs resale is just for booking a cruise thru DVC.

I've been on the cruises. I am a DVC member but I book the cruises directly with DCL. I do not use my DVC points to book my cruises. I just let the DVC rep know at the terminal at check in that I am a member and I receive all the DVC member perks on board.

I've read the reasons not to use points for cruises. I was wondering if the rooms that you'd get through points (spending the least amount possible) are way lower in quality then what you'd get through renting the points and using the cash to book.

No, there is no difference. The staterooms in each category are, for the most part, all the same. They do not have specific DVC staterooms. You get the same stateroom that a cash guest could book.

If DVD knows that you are on board, they will market to you.

I stopped telling them that we are members because I get tired of the sales voice mails while on board.

They found me last cruise and I didn't tell them I was a member (and trust me the world's most CLUELESS Travel Agent would never have thought to ask! Never again with that agency! LOL!)

As mentioned, if you don't see a DVC magnet when you enter your room, you simply need to tell a castmember at the DVC desk by the lobby that you are a member. (Showing your member ID card won't hurt, but I don't know if it's necessary.) There is sometimes a DVC desk in the terminal before you board, so you could talk to the CM there too.

We booked on cash thru our trusty AAA t/a and we gave her our memb # and we had the magnet on our door when we arrived. We had stayed the night before at the VWL and got a memb since button and I had it on and we were stopped in the terminal and given an invitation to the welcome home party. Got some great door prizes. Later in our room we rec'd a dvc keepsake box and a coupon for a steamboat willie pin. We didn't get the daily calls tho. We bought our points direct but however plan to use those and book any future cruises thru our AAA t/a whom we have used for years to book our annual WDW trips.

Thank you all for your info ! Would like to attend the DVC party and don't mind them calling me. I am good in saying no anyway ! :)

It was weird, on our 3 day cruise in May (booked on cash), we stopped by the desk and told them we were members, etc. They gave us the magnets but told us that they no longer do voicemail calls and we can stop by whatever events we liked. Weren't very friendly, but we didn't mind the lack of blinking voicemails when we got back to the room.

Just got back from a 5 day cruise we paid cash for, we had gotten the magnet and the gift in the room, and was invited to the first party but got no voicemails after we attended the party (was hoping for the OBC they gave away but walked out with some blankets, etc so it was worth an hour of our time before dinner and the DH finally got to meet my guide since I'd bought with him on the phone!). Did not tell TA we were members, as other DISsers had foretold, they just knew. Btw, our points are half direct, half resale.
All in all the pin/gift/magnet totally worth the one invitation we got to go to the sales pitch which was entertaining. Maybe they're lightening up?

Edited to add: also got one call on my cell a few days before the cruise that they were looking forward to seeing us on-board. Just got me more excited about the cruise so didn't mind that either!
