This is probably really obvious and I'll feel stupid after I receive the answer. :confused3 But what is a lock off studio and a dedicated studio?

Also, do all of the BCV studios have balconies? Thanks!! :sunny:

Dedicated means there is no internal door to a 1 bedroom unit (to make it a 2 bedroom unit).

AFAIK, all of the BCV studios have balconies.

Best wishes -

P.S. No need to feel stupid for asking a legitimate question. You are not the first (and won't be the last) to ask this question.

I just wanted to add that when I made reservations for our upcoming BCV stay, I requested a non-smoking and dedicated 1 bdrm villa. The CM I spoke to said there was no such thing as a dedicated 1 bdrm villa. So, I asked her to put something along the lines of "requests a 1 bdrm villa that does not have a connecting door to a studio" down as a request. She giggled a bit and said she would. Well, I got my confirmation and it says I requested non-smoking and non-HA accessible villa.

So, apparently, even some CMs don't know what a dedicated villa is.

I'm believe the intent of MS is to always give you a dedicated unit, be it a studio, 1BR or 2BR for whichever type room you request, that way it keeps there options open. But things sometimes do change when you arrive and what is available or will become available that day.
The system is far from perfect.

My take on the dedicated 1 bedroom is that MS really doesn't think that the catagory of a dedicated room actually exists and I have always had them say there is "no such thing".

I have had very poor experiences trying to get a dedicated room and the more important issue for me is that many of the CM's at BCV don't have any idea what a "dedicated" room means.

Yes, there room charts that the CM's have to look at that list "dedicated" as a room catagory but they don't know what that means. I know this because I had to explain the meaning to 4 CM's who were checking me in. I was so shocked that they didn't have a clue. I asked how they are able to get rooms assigned when they don't understand what the room catagories are...I was met with blank stares.

I notified customer relations (I know they are called something else the name escapes me at the moment) about the lack of knowledge the front desk staff had as well as MS always saying to me that there is no such thing as a "dedicated" room. I received a call when I returned home from my trip from a very nice women who wanted to apologize for the problems at check in but unfortunatly she didn't know what the term "dedicated" meant either!!

I asked her what she thought "dedicated" meant in terms of a room she told me that it meant that it was reserved for a DVC member!!! After I swallowed my tongue I told her she was incorrect and explained to her that it meant there was no door that connected to the next room and in the case of a 1 bedroom dedicated you got a closet by the front door. She then said "well, she was told by the people at BCV that it meant the room was reserved for DVC members!" I posed some other questions to show her that there was no way her info. was accurate but she wanted to stick to her story!

So I thanked her for calling hung up and realized that here on the DIS people know what they are talking about more then the poeple who are paid to know what they are talking about.!

From now on I will just bring my room chart and ask for specific room numbers that I know are dedicated. I know others have suggested that you don't be so specific and take what the CM's give out but I have no confidence that they even understand what they have for rooms.

Best wishes in your quest for a "dedicated" room! :)
