We had planned on our first three days to book BCV but having read about room problems I am now concerned:worried:

If the room is unacceptable is it as easy to get a change as DVC owners (first DVC visit) as it is if it was a cash booking?

DVC resorts typically are at 100% occupancy so it can be difficult to change.

Oh no :( Maybe need a rethink. Thought booking would be easy, just want our first DVC visit to be perfect, maybe expecting too much:confused:

I've been a member for 15 years and never had a room that was "unacceptable". But to be honest, I'm not real picky, things like chipped furniture doesn't bother me, the main thing is it is clean.

We just returned from the BCV. We spent a week there in a 1BR on the ground floor. Our room was in excellent condition. The paint was clean and crisp, the soft goods seemed clean and seemed new. The carpeting seemed clean as well. All in all I would say our unit was in excellent condition.

We've had maint issues that made certain rooms unacceptable but never had a significant problem getting them corrected or us moved. It's the moderate issues that we've had some concern about, things you really wanted fixed but you could live with for a while.

Just back from BCV, we had a room issue, here is what they did. Arrived Weds Oct 1 at around 8:30PM. Checked in, the brought us to our 1 Bedroom room #120. Walked in, was overcome by cigarette smoke, not he light smell of smoke, but that deep seated smell on humid smoke saturation. Bellman was with us and he mentioned several things, 1. he had checked the couple into that room a week before us and the 1st thing they asked was where the smoking area was, 2. also commented that the couple luggage smelled so bad of smoke that he could not believe it. 3. Also when we walked in we noticed, all fans were on and windows were left open by cleaning staff, which bellman says never happens.

Bellman called manager and explained the issue. We were brought back to front desk. 100% of BCV rooms were booked and given the late check in, most were occupied. We were offered to move to another DVC property where we could check into a 1 bedroom for the week and not have to switch rooms, but it is F&W and perfect pool weather, so we really wanted our BCV room. So, we were placed in a 2 bedroom (Lock off) in the Hotel (Not Villas) on the concierge level for the night. They checked us into a new 1 Bedroom in the villas the next day. 2 bedroom in hotel was nice, but no kitchen washing machine etc... Concierge was nice as we grabbed free wine and beer and snacks for the night. It was a bummer that we ran into this though, because we wasted all the time checking in and did not get to hit Epcot EMH on the night we checked in from 9-11PM as we had planned and we could not really unpack as we had to move the next day.

Here is that the Manager did for us to make up for the issue.
1. Gave us 4 free fast passes to the park of our choice that could be used on anything except (A&E and SDMT) We chose Epcot as we had FP's set up everywhere else for mornings as we planned to Food and Wine each night and this made for a nice 2 trips of Test track and 2 on Soarin.
2. Put us in a nice room in the hotel with club access for the 1st night
3. Moved all our luggage from the temp room in the hotel to our villa while we were in the parks
4. Changed our DVC reservation, so we actually got 1 nights worth of points back in "Holding" which with a quick call to DVC were restored to normal points banked into 2015.

On the downside,
1. Couldn't unpack
2. Missed EMH at Epcot on first night
3. Screwed up our charging privledges on our first day as we were between rooms and when they switched the reservation, they deleted my credit card from system, we fixed in person after our 1st day in parks (always carry that emergency credit card to parks in case magic band loses its magic)

As for both rooms we had, sure they are a little dated, but other than the smoke issue, they were just fine. I don't mind older appliances or furniture that looks like it has been used a little bit. Bathrooms were clean, water pressure is awesome, appliance were clean and worked. Bed and linens were comfortable, pull out couch was not all that comfortable, but that is to be expected. Overall it was clean and we never thought anything was too used, everything worked properly, and nothing was an eyesore that we noticed.

As for our smoking room, just so you don't think we are too picky, we passed it on the second day of our vacation and the door was covered in plastic with some machine was running in it, and all the cushions and drapes from the room were in plastic bags just outside the door.

Your situation was handled just the way it should have been! Kudos to the BCV management!

Man, I hope the previous occupants were charged for every bit of that cleaning, plus the added expenses of your stay. Just because they chose to become and stay addicted to nicotine does not entitle them to flaunt rules and basically destroy (even temporarily) property! Most other people who are in the same situation are able to be considerate and follow rules.

IMO your smoking room should never have passed inspection and you should have been checked in to the CL room from day one.

This is the same type of thing that has happened to us several times. It's like they hope that you won't notice the room issue of if you do, maybe you will just accept it and not say anything.

First - never had a room anywhere in DVC in 6 years that was unacceptable and
Second - BLT rooms have been in much worse condition that anything we've had at BC and
Third - the worse maintenance issues and scary room have been BW altho nothing that we took the time to complain about during our stay so the only impact was our general comfort level. Always have felt like BW is kinda the Red Roof Inn part of DVC.

As for your last comment...gasp!!

I love BWV!!

I hope they charged those people.

I know it's a pain to go to the trouble to, maybe not actually complain, but point out the minor maintenance issues at check out. That way, there is a much greater chance that all those "little things" get repaired and not impact the next guest. My suggestion is that they provide members with a form that we can fill out to details the small maintenance issues. Of course, any type of major issue should be dealt with immediately.
I have never had any type of major issue, either, at BWV. The rooms still look beautiful to me and the resort is just gorgeous.

They really should charge the previous occupants. How will they learn for the next time. Have never read anyone here admitting they were charged for anything so who knows if they do :worried:

Every resort has bus issues, maintenance issue, housekeeping issues. I hope your first stay is a great one but don't go expecting it all to be perfect and 100% magical. You will be looking for all the negatives and not the positive.

Enjoy yourself and if you do have a problem, go to the front desk.

Thank you everyone for the replies. We have decided that we will stay at BCV. I am not overly fussy as long as the room is clean, a little bit of wear and tear does not bother me. In all our other visits (not as DVC members) we have only had a problem once with the air con. at OKW which was rectified pretty quickly:)

We also changed rooms at BCV when we were there last year for F&W. Our 2BR was located just around the corner from the elevator that is near the entrance to the pool area. My DH is a very light sleeper and he could hear the elevator going up and down and could not fall asleep until after 2 a.m.! The next morning we called the front desk and the manager told us to pack our bags, leave them with bell services, and as soon as another family had checked out, we could have that room. Problem solved! We didn't get any extra "perks," but DH was just glad to be able to fall asleep the next night!

I agree with a PP. Please don't expect a "perfect" trip. That is a set up for disappointment.
Here is wishing you a great trip

really? I don't know what the occupancy rate is but I've never had a problem with getting my room change.

We generally go in August when I've been told is a low season for dvc. I've had to change rooms twice. Once at AKL, we got a one bedroom and the toilet didn't work. :lmao: that was a no brainer.

Second time was at wilderness lodge where two of my stoves burners did not work, we always laugh about that one because normally I avoid cooking like the black plaque and of course the one trip where we travelled with a family member who suffers from celiac disease and wanted to cook.

op, I will say this, I too am concerned BCV's is my home resort and I have a family reunion planned for 17 people in august for 11 days.

I will also say that every time we've requested a new room, we have absolutely had no problems getting one. Disney was super nice about it

Also let me say, those were major mechanical failures, not sure how easy it is to just request a new room say for a better view.
