Well, I think I'm ready to buy. I wish I had this board when I decided not to purchase 5 years ago!
One last question:
I really don't care whether my home resort is BWV or BCV. I've stayed at the Beach Club and at the BWV before. I was thinking that perhaps I could get half of my points a the BCV and then request and add-on at BWVs. Does this make sense? It is even an option? Would it be a benefit because I would have 11 month access to 2 resorts? Would I be able to do this? I read something about transfers. You thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Megadan- Our story is similar to yours, we looked long and hard 5 years ago, but the time was just not right for us to buy.
We finally took the plunge, and bought the BCV's earlier this year. Like many other people on the DIS, our only regret is not doing it sooner! We can't wait for our first trip home this October.

If you are planning to buy through Disney, your only current option for a "home" resort at WDW would be the Beach Club Villas. You can buy the BWV's through resale. I believe there is currently a waiting list to buy add-on's of the BWV's through Disney.

Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy your road "home!"

You only have the 11 month priority for that resort's points. For example, if you have 150 BCV and 150 BWV, you could only use 150 for a BWV ressie at 11 months (or you could borrow from the next year's BWV points to get more), you could use the 150 BCV points at 7 months to add to the reservation.

BCV and BWV are basically in the same place - I want get all my points with one - now however if you are looking at VWL that would be different.

We couldnt decide on which resort we wanted the 11 month window so we own 3 homes!!! OKW, BCV, BWV. :D

Now with that said... we only have 11 month rights for the amount of points we hold at each location. For us that works since we plan on using each resort every two years with the third year going for a cruise....(at the 11 month window)

Spiltting your point between BWV and BCV might work well.... (if you need the 11 month window) even if you plan to use your points every year, you can just split your stay (if needed) between the two resorts.... I cant think of an easier resort swicth. SOme people dont like changing resorts, but I find it kinda nice, seems like your seeing more of the world that way! You could start off with the high action of BWV then wind down the last days relaxing at SAB.

Now, dont quote me on this but I beleive BWV is very sold out... meaning that just about every UY has a waiting list for add ons from current DVC members.... I would seek out a nice resale BWV contract (and who know, you could find a sweet deal for all your points) then add on to BCV if you so desire.... the other way around (buying BCV then adding on to BWV may be difficult, due to the waiting list)

We have used Jaki at www.timeshare.com (1-888-345-2622)
3 times and just love her. In fact for our BWV resale, we emailed her and told her the UY we wanted the point range, and the price per point we were willing to pay. It took a little over a month to find our perfect resale!!! Jaki was great though the whole thing!!! The resale we bought NEVER made it to the internet..... it hit her desk and she called us! Very sweet indeed!!!

Have fun seeking out perfect contracts! They are out there!!! Let us know what you decide!!!

Edited for grammar..... yeah I know... still messed up, but hey I tried!!

BWV is sold out. There is a wait list for points that have been returned. You could do exactly as you say, buy half your points at BCV and request to be put on a wait list for your add-on at BWV, but it may or may not come through. You could also do the BWV add-on through re-sale (I don't have any experience at this, we bought all of our points at BCV, through Disney)

The only advantage to buying at the two different resorts would be if you wanted to stay at two different resorts and wanted the 11 month window for those points only at those resorts.

The disadvantage would be that you would have a smaller number of points to work with at each resort so if you bought 150 points at BCV, the most points you could have at the 11 month window at one time would be 450 if you banked one year and borrowed from the next.

IMO the two biggest differences are the boardwalk view- which is very hard to get from what others have posted, and SAB. Which is more important to you? I would only buy at both if I was purchasing enough points at both to spend a full week as we don't like moving.

My humble recommendation would be to buy all your points at one or the other. I'll make trip planning a whole lot easier, and they have the same location advantage and are as different as the difference between other resorts like WLV. I'd take KNWVIKING's advice and pick one and put all my points in that basket. Just a thought.

My gut tells me that you would be best off buying all at one resort (but with two contracts if you are buying a lot of points). But there is one other benefit I could see to buying at both locations.

Let's say you're at the 11 month point for a vacation at a very high demand time of the year for DVC members. By owning at both BWV and BCV, you could call MS and ask if there is an appropriate accommodation at either one of them for the time you are going. You would be able to use the 11 month advantage at two resorts at the same time that way. Let's say in that scenario that MS indicates that BWV is fully booked but there is room at BCV. You then make the ressie with BCV, borrowing the next year's BCV points if needed to make the ressie. Then bank the BWV points.

The next year, you would be at BWV but the year after that you would be back to having two home resort options again.

Hmmmm....I like this. Can someone poke holes in my logic??

This is what we are doing.... sort of a round robin game.... This December we are treating family (and us) to a Week at OKW (two 2 bedrooms no less!) by banking and borrowing from our OKW contracts.... then when we go next year we will use our BCV points, which we banked this year.... then we still have a full BWV points so those can be banked and go towards a cruise or another extended family vacation at BWV. Then it starts all over again for the next 40 years.

Now to further mess things up....we have TWO use years!!! :earseek:

A couple of people mentioned just getting all your points at one resort. This is a grand plan!! You just pick your fave resort and buy as many points as you can afford! Very easy to manage.... you have the security of the 11 month window at your fave place AND can often be placed on the waiting list for other choices while your booked with your home resort ressies...I reccomend it! UNLESS your like me and you love juggling things from here to there (I prolly could do without the TWO UY but hey..... it will be nice to have the 100% banking window twice a year, so we can plan summer vacations will little fear of loosing points into the dreaded holding bank ROFL) OCD has it's advantages <grin>

Just remember no matter what home resort(s) you pick it is not that hard to book at any other DVC propert(except at certain times of the year/exact room choice).... I think VWL and BWV are the hardest to get into during peak times (DVC peak and WDW peak) If staying at one of those two resorts is important to you, than choose that as your home resort.... and plan trips to other DVC properties at a less hectic time....or waitlist :D

Again.... have fun deciding!!!

You guys are the greatest! I certainly have options. I have been reading the boards all week trying to learn as much as possible from you all.
All the info is extremely helpful but it does bring up more questions each time. Thank you for your patience.

LOL..okay, and then what happens in 30 years when we're too senile to figure it all out? I'll bet having a geriatric DVC member population will be advantageous to Disney. ;)
