BCS Championship Game

My wife and I are big Alabama fans and have planned a trip for January 8-15. Going off of recent games, looks like Alabama will be in the BCS Championship game on January 9th. I do not have reservations anywhere that night and was planning on going to the ESPN bar on the Boardwalk that night. However, I have read a couple of threads talking about the crowds on big game nights. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to watch the game?

In Janurary 1999 my family and I went to the Boardwalk to try and eat at the ESPN Club, however when we got there they had a huge line up outside and we found out that it was for the BCS National Championship Game. Had we known that it was night we would have never even attempted to go there. So if you want to try the ESPN Club my advice is line up 1 - 2 hours before because they also don't accept ADR's.

Where are you staying? A number of resorts have televisions in the bars. But there's no guarantee they will be showing the game you want to see.

We were there for a normal NFL Sunday in October and stood in line for an hour and a half to get a table. For a big game like that, I'd say get there 1 1/2-2 hours ahead and stake out a table. Order lots of appetizers and beer and enjoy the SEC title game, oops I mean BCS championship.

I'm one of those people who believes watching football is 10x more fun if watching with a group of people because of all the hype, etc. I would definitely suffer through the wait so I could watch the game at The ESPN Club.

Well, we are staying at the Wilderness Lodge so I guess we will check with the bar tenders to see what game they will have on. Depending on that I guess I will make that decision. Thanks again

If it is on ABC or ESPN it will be. I am sure the same holds true if it is onNBC FOX or CBS.
Hopefully it isn 't on TNT/TBS. From what I remember our hotel didn't have those channel.

We were down there last year (OUR national championship year) -- believe in keeping things in the state, you know! And we found that trying to get into ESPN Club for any of the bowl games was really tough. (One to two hour waits.) We came home for the BCS game, but tried two or three times to get into ESPN for some of the other good games (our resort was the BoardWalk), and it just wasn't happening.

So, if you can go to one of the other good lounges -- the one at the Yachtsman is really nice or at Downtown Disney (Planet Hollywood or Raglan Road?), you might find a better place to watch.

If you have the patience to get into ESPN, though, it would be a great place!

If it were me, I wouldn't even attempt ESPN that night unless you plan to get there 3 hours before game time...or more. I'm a Gator, and I've had to do this several on several occasions Outer Rim at Contemporary used to be a good spot, but now they have only one lousy TV I think. That could be a fall back option, if you want to stick close to Wilderness.
