BC/YC Question

We are staying at the YC starting the Sunday after Thanksgiving for about 8 days. It will be our first stay there. I've seen both good and bad posts about using the Disney transportation system to get to MK, AKL and DTD. I posted on the transportation board but didn't get many replies. Those of you who have stayed there and used this transportation ... can you give me your opinions...ALL opinions. Is it a disadvantage to stay at this deluxe resort considering it shares a bus route with Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, YC and BC? Seems like a lot of stops. Are the buses typically really crowded?

My concern comes after staying at the Dolphin one trip and seeing the large numbers of "groups" staying there who took the bus. It seemed that after the bus left the Dolphin it was packed and those at the other resorts ended up standing. This experience is about 9 years old so am wondering what it is like now.

When we stayed in December, the bus was shared with BC/YC and Swan/Dolphin. Because they are all so close together, it didn't seem to be an inconvenience at all. Personally, I thought the bus transportation was better than what we've experienced at the GF.

When we stayed at the BC last June, 2005 the buses to MK, AK and DTD were not crowded at all. We hardly had to wait and we only stood once when we left MK when it closed.

It depends on when you are catching a bus. If it is during an especially busy part of the day - first thing in the morning or a return after a parade at night, then yes, it will be crowded. However, the advantage is that you can choose from different buses when leaving a park- - - what I mean is, if you are waiting for the Beach/Yacht bus and the Boardwalk bus comes along just hop on it and when you get to the Boardwalk, it's just a short walk to the other Epcot resorts. Same thing applies when you are taking a boat - you can get off at any resort and then just take a short walk to your hotel instead of waiting for the boat to make all the stops at others. When we stay at the Epcot resorts (my personal favorites) we just take whatever comes first and makes the most sense. Also, with good planning, you can almost always be assured of a seat. And, besides, if you have to stand, it really isn't that far to go 15-20 minutes at the most. Not a big deal, IMHO. Go and have fun! Don't worry about the buses. Besides I have met some really interesting people when I have been crowded onto the bus in the evenings. We even had a group of Brazilian soccer players serenade us on the bus one night! :dance3:

We've rarely experienced a problem with the bus transportation. The only time that it may get a little crowded is on the MK bus early in the morning. YC guests usually are fine, but the BC guests may have to stand. :)

Does the bus pick up YC guests first? Since I am staying at the BC, would it be better to wait at the YC stop instead?
TIA

We have stayed that exact time the last three times we went to YC :cloud9: IMHO the busses were not overly croweded and sharing with the other Epcot resorts did not bother us. The only time we had to stand on a bus was coming back from MK at night after Wishes or MVMCP.

The boat coming back from MGM after Fantasmic is always crowded. If you choose to take the boat you may have to stand, or wait for a second boat - that line grows very quickly. We definately preferred walking from YC to MGM. We would watch the boats and always beat them to the park (we did not walk too fast either!)

The bus to AK is a relatively short ride and we never had to stand either going to the park or returning to Epcot.

Overall we have always been very pleased with the YC - it is my DF's fave resort.

Princess De- The busses do stop at YC before BC, however I think you should be fine waiting at the BC stop.

Have a great trip!

Cheers

Thanks Dana49 for the information.
As we all know, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER !!! I appreciate the power boost :rotfl2:

Don't mean to be too negative, I've stayed at YC and BWI and bus transportation is the only negative. It is GREAT to be able to walk to MGM and EPCOT, but to get to the other destinations really takes a long time. Why disney has 5 resorts sharing one bus is beyond me! I thought transportation to/from the All Stars was the most efficient of all our vacations.
When staying at BWI and YC, a lot of times when we were taking the bus back, we would just get off at the first stop and walk to our resort since they are all clustered together, but on the way out there was no getting around the long trek around the 5 resorts.
I wish disney would review this bus policy, for the prices you pay at a deluxe, you shouldn't have such long bus rides.

The BC/YC by has the best location of all of the Delux Resorts. Very easy boat ride to MGM, and an easy walk to EPCOT. We've stayed at the Poly 4 times and we stayed at the BC last July. I have to be honest though, waits for busses to all other parks seemed to be much longer at the Beach Club then they were at the Poly. The Poly shares a bus with the GF and bus waits seemed to always be very short.

When we stayed at BCV we only took the bus to MK. We walked to Epcot, took the boat to MGM and actually drove to AK. We did have 15 minute wait one time for a bus to MK but I've had that or longer waits at other resorts as well.

We stayed at BC last September. The longest we waited for a bus (about 15 min.) was coming back from DTD one afternoon. We probably just missed the previous one. Otherwise, the wait times were very short to and from all parks. :)

I have to chime in on the negative side with the bus transportation. We stayed at the BWI last August and watched three Mk busses roll by full. It was an EMH morning at the MK and we were standing at the bus stop at 7:00am!!! I was livid. We arrived at the MK around 8:15.

There are close to 4000 hotel rooms being served by the one bus route (S&D, BC&YC and BWI) Thats more than any other route!! I think its appalling. If you are staying at a peak time my best suggestion, drive your own car or take a taxi.

Generally speaking, all the resorts don't share a bus to the same park. For the early buses, BW, and the S/D are on the same bus. In most cases YC/BC have their own bus. Midday, that changes and they are all on the same route. When I was at BW last Dec, we very seldom stopped at YC/BC. Yes, we shared with S/D, but that was it. In fact, there were some times when we hopped off the bus at the Swan and walked to BW...much quicker. At night, the same thing. YC/BC usually have their own bus for the last few hours of the parks being open. I have, in the past, actually hopped on the YC/BC bus because it got there sooner than the BW bus, and then walked to BW from the BC stop.
Most of the deluxes have a weak point in their transportation.....waiting for a bus to MGM at the Polynesian is brutal...longest wait we have ever had, at any resort...45 minutes!!! Maybe they (Disney) feels we should consider ourselves fortunate to be staying in a deluxe with some good ways to get to one or two parks, so that we shouldn't complain about the buses to the other areas!!!

We stayed at the YC close to the time you are staying, but last year. Bus transportation was never a problem, especially since YC gets picked up first. You may have to wait a little longer here and there, but that's to be expected with any bus route. I understand some people's complaints about stopping at other resorts, but I can only recall two times we stopped at any of the other resorts to lengthen the ride time. I think the YC is a great place to stay, and that you will enjoy it very much. It's one of my favorite resorts on Disney property.
