BBM while at Disney

This is the second year we've added the $10 plan and the second time it's been a wash rate-wise (meaning we didn't really take advantage of the reduced rates).

One of the key things I make sure I do is go to the mobile versions of the sites we want to visit, such as m.facebook.com, m.touringplans.com, m.google.com, m.disneyworld.com, etc.

I find the Facebook app uses a lot more data than the mobile one, and a lot of times we're directed to full versions of sites instead of the mobile ones on our BB. Saves a lot of data right there.

Yup, that is a great tip. I find so many sites already have the mobile site come up automatically on our phone - Disney does that.

Is that $10.00 for the entire length of stay or per month? Asking for my sis and bil, as they both have Telus Blackberries too, and she called the other day, but was a bit confuzzled.

Glad you were able to use your Blackberry without too much trouble at Disney!

Sure comes in handy, Tiger

It's for 30 days.. so once you add it you have 30 days before it expires. You may be able to order it on, say, the 3rd and ask to be active when you leave on, say, the 10th and it would be good until the 9th or 10th of the next month.

Excellent. I'll have my sis check on that for planning their next Disney trip.

Regular Telus data roaming rates are cheaper than Rogers, but Rogers also has this $10.00/month reduced data roaming rate as well, and the One Rate which we have.

Seems like Telus and Rogers are trying to work out reduced data roaming rates for us Canadians, but they still have a ways to go!

Thanks, Tiger :)

As far as using it in the States, we're with Virgin and we'd only want it to communicate if we split up in the parks. The American data plan was ridiculous. I can't remember what it was exactly but I think it was something like 40 or 45 per phone for 3 phones. And that only gave us a limited amount of use.
Not worth it with Virgin Mobile.

Admittedly I find this all really confusing so I could have parts of it wrong.

I'm not sure when you checked that data plan, but for a while now, it's been the same as Telus where you pay $10/month flat fee with $1/mb.

It's called the US Data Roaming Saver and you can find it on the Long Distance page on Virginmobile.ca

I'm with Virgin too and that's what I plan to use. My best friend has a really good Telus plan where she pays a flat rate for a set amount of data. Not sure if it is still available now though.
