Has anyone used the BBC i player on their tablet/phone/laptop while at Disney? DH can't miss Eastenders (sad I know!) and my autistic son will not want to miss Atlantis if it is showing while we are there.

What about Netflix?
:happytv:

Netflix should work though, however you will get the US version rather than the uk one :)

:goodvibes

Probably a silly question but if you download stuff from i player are you able to watch it abroad? We finally got an I pad for Xmas (well my son did) and I was thinking it would be good for the plane and long car journey when we are over there. Lots of things I I player I could download.

I don't see why downloaded programmes wouldn't work as they don't require an active connection - although I haven't tried it.

My DH actually downloaded a couple of movies and converted them to play in iTunes, so it is possible. I don't think it'll be so easy to access the "live"(ish) programmes if you're abroad though!

We downloaded Dr Who on Christmas day to watch off line later on and it worked fine. Just remember that if you're not using an internet connection that putting the iPad in airplane mode will make the battery last much longer; if it's not then it's always sending out a signal to try and connect with the internet which drains the battery (same goes for smart phones as well)

iPlayer downloads work fine abroad if you've already downloaded them at home.

If you want to access iPlayer, 4OD etc when in the states then I use Tunnelbear VPN on my iPhone and iPad- it roots your data through either the UK or US and allows you to access almost anything whilst at WDW.

Thanks - I'm not very techie but I think will will look into the tunnelbear VPN (don't even know what this is lol!) I haven't downloaded anything before but will make sure I figure it all out and try it before we go - only 10 months so that should be enough time!

The things I downloaded from my i-player wouldn't work on my ipad last trip for some reason. If you get the vpn you will be able to pick up any programmes (it changes the ip address so it thinks your in the UK)

You can also create an account via streamvia.com , which allows you to use skygo etc. in USA. Also useful for any users of Betfair, as you need a UK IP address to use that as well.

Conversely this site also allow you to use a USA IP address while in the UK. Recently radio stations such as magic949 in Tampa stopped streaming for international listeners, so with this you can now listen to US stations while in UK.

Hope that makes sense!!

Barrie.

If you are after a VPN service I can recommend privateinternetaccess.com

It's cheap, very fast and has VPNs all over the world.

I use it to watch US Netflix from here in the UK (they have loads more stuff then we do in the UK, especially US shows like Supernatural) but will be using it while on vacation to DL iPlayer stuff.
