The programme showing the results of the audience poll to find the top '50 places to see before you die' will be shown on BBC1, this Sunday (10th November) at 8pm.

I know quite a few of us nominated WDW, so it'll be interesting to see where it came in the poll.

(Also look out for a mug shot of yours truly, as I was contacted after the poll and asked to submit a photo for possible inclusion in the programme! :teeth: )

The results are in the papers this morning - WDW came third :)

Top spot went to the grand canyon and there was not one place from the British Isles in the top 50.

I'm sorry, but I'll just have to gloat here!

I'm from New Zealand and I was just sooooo proud to see that both the North and South Islands came into the top 50!

Incidentally, did you notice that a lot of the papers are a bit snotty about the fact that WDW was included in the top 50? They write as though there is something wrong in having a holiday that is just fun fun fun and not all scenery and sightseeing. Killjoys!

I was surprised about the Grand Canyon. Is that someplace that interests you guys? Do you know I lived in Phoenix for an entire year and never made the two hour trip north to see it. Pretty sad, uh?

Well the Grand Canyon would certainly be top of my list but it's something to do once our son has grown up a bit.

I guess it's like anything, if it's on your doorstep you just don't seem interested.

The BBC list was drawn up following a survey of Brits, so it's not surprising not one UK sightseeing spot made it. The whole idea was to name your dream place.

Was pleased to see that I have made it to one of the top 50 spots though (WDW of course!).

My top 3 choices (excluding WDW) would be:-

1. Grand Canyon & Yosemite (wouldn't do one without the other).
2. Australia (inc Ayres Rock & Great Barrier Reef).
3. Victoria Falls.

Anyone else??

I read this list in the paper yesterday and was thrilled to see that I've already done the top three!! :) Just have to work my way through all the ones I haven't seen now!!

Man made or not it was great to see WDW at Number 3, as a 'place to see' it's certainly got everything.

PegasusEH - My top 3 of places I'd still like to see would be ...

1. Angel Falls - Venezuela
2. Niagara Falls - From the Canadian side (I like my water!!)
3. Ayres Rock

As has been said, as it was a poll of British people it's not surprising really that places in Britain were omitted, but it's a shame nontheless as there are some amazing places here at home too.

Hilary - I'll be looking out for you tonight!! Fame at last!! ;)

Astrid

......... looking forward to seeing this programme - but since it starts whilst we are having UK Chat, I'm going to tape it !!
Just checked out the BBC site - here is the list!

I went to the Grand Canyon in July 2001. I wasn't bothered about going but seeing as we were in Vegas and my sister wanted to see it we went. WOW!!! is all I can say. It was magnificent and I would love to go and see it again.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I'm not surprised it is number 1 in the poll.:D

There was a ride I didn't recocnize on the WDW segment. It was like a waltzer car but on a roller coaster track, can someone what this ride was please?

That was the relatively new ride at AK - Primeval Whirl

Yes! Can you believe it - of all the rides in all the World and they choose that one!

Have to say I thought Craig Doyle and co. were a bit disparaging in their comments about our beloved WDW. Sure, it isn't a natural wonder like the grand canyon or waterfalls but it wasn't a surprise to me that it was voted number 3.

Just shows that the great British public appreciate a fun place to see as well as a nice view.

My husband hadnt seen the results in the paper - and whilst we were watching he kept saying "I bet Walt Disney World is No1" - I had seen the results but didnt let on - and he isnt the biggest Fan! I was also surprised at the way the presenters seemed 'surprised' that WDW was in the top three!

Lots of places to think about but I think my 'Wish' list of top three to visit would be:

1. Grand Canyon
2. Niagara Falls
3. South Island, New Zealand.

:D :D :D

I think one of the reasons WDW came in so high on the list was because the criteria for a nomination was that it must be a place you had actually visited, not just somewhere you'd like to see one day.

I know there were many places on the top 50 list I'd love to visit, but I couldn't have nominated any of them because they're still on my 'wish list'.

(And, no, my ugly mug wasn't one of those shown on a stick at WDW! :( Ah well, obviously not my chance for five seconds of fame this time! )

Disappointed you weren't appearing, Hilary:( Interesting programme - on my "wish list" Bora Bora would be up there in the top three and that only came in at no 50 . . .just goes to show it takes all sorts.

Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Rockies, WDW . . . the States did very well. Yet more places to plan for, me thinks:)

Thanks Penny:D

If the criteria was to nominate a place you had been to,how on earth could climbing Mount Everest be so high on the list?

Good point Kazzie. I think it was seeing the Himalayas - which you can from a number of places in Nepal and India. I have been fortunate to seeing this mountain range from the Indian side a couple of times - and it is quite a sight!
Regarding the whole programme - I thought it was a bit rushed - blink & you'd miss it - for some of these. Would have been much better if it was spread over 5 one hour programmes (nos 50-41;40-31 etc) and a bit more time spent on each - they were supposed to be the most special 50 destinations in the whole world after all!!
Could have been enough time to show Hilary's mug shot as well!!!

Mowgli,

I did think it was too rushed too:rolleyes:

With the papers and presenters alomst apologising for the third choice of WDW(which I think would have been clearer to say Orlando) SO snobby:eek:

I completely agree, the programme was far too rushed and too little time was spent at each place, it would have been much better doing it over a series or as one 2-3 hour programme.

WDW definitely deserved to be 3 and I think Grand Canyon deserved to be no.1 too, it is magnificent. I agree Kazzie Instead of WDW though think it would have been better if they just had it as Orlando.

Isn't Craig Doyle lucky to get paid to go to all these places?!
