We are taking our DD (4) for her first trip in Jan. Already booked BBB, now I'm having second thoughts. As I was drying her hair tonight and she was screaming like usual I started to fear the worst about BBB. She is so incredibly tender-headed. My TA said that they have some awesome detangler spray but I also know you should arrive tangle free. Should I give up on my dream of BBB or does anyone have a suggestion on how to brush this poor childs hair? When I dry her hair after the bath it is so tangled on top i can pick up one strand and it all comes up. It's because she sweats at night and "wollers"/ rolls around. And she WILL NOT let me brush it to get the tangles out. We braid it at night to try to reduce tangles, we use conditioner, and detangling spray. I'm at my wits end. :confused3

Also, If I decide to go through with this, do you choose the dress for your DD or do you let her pick? She has 4 princess dresses and was going to be getting a cinderella one for Christmas. I would prefer her to wear the Cindy dress as it is short and seems to be more comfortable to walk around it. Should I skip that for Christmas and pack it up as a surprise when we get to the world?

My niece did this when she was 4 last year and also has pretty fine hair and is sensitive. Her FGIT was VERY gentle and often asked her if she was pulling on her hair too hard and whatnot. I think you should be fine! I've see girls in there with big heads of curly, thick hair. That has to be worse!

Also, my sister picked out the dress but let my niece pick out her hair style :)

My DD has very thick, curly hair and cries every time I brush it. The night before, I blew it out dry, then used a flat iron (useless, since it grew with the FL humidity lol) but she had no problems at all at BBB!

She got 3 new princess dresses for her birthday and I let her pick which one to wear to BBB. She also picked the hairstyle, but with a STRONG suggestion from me as to which one was prettiest! LOL

OMG - my niece stared at the pictures of the hairstyles for what seemed like forever. Just as my niece was about to point to the "crazy" hair style, my sister and I looked at each other horrified! Luckily at the last minute she chose the "pretty" one. Hahahahaha!

If she is so tender headed, will she even allow them to pull her hair up into the bun? When I see the little girls that come from BBB they all look like their eyes are pulled up. Why not just wait a year until she can tolerate it better?

Be sure and look at picks of the girls that are done. I have yet to see a pretty hair style IMO! And I love long hair but I cut my daughters for just this reason. Not short but shoulder lengthy. She is happy and I too!

You wrote it was your dream, but is it also hers?

If it is, she is much more likely to put up with the hairstyling because she really wants the end result. If its your dream, no matter how gentle the Fairy Godmother is, she may not let them brush it. That would not make for good memories.
As another poster mentioned, you might want to consider waiting a year.

PS - you might to talk to a hairdresser about products for at home. The ones you are using might make her hair too soft and actually be making the tangling worse.

My dd5 is tender headed too. She cries at the least little knot in her hair. We did the BBB for the first time in October. She never cried or complained once. The FGIT was go gentle with her and kept asking if DD was okay. I never even said anything about her being tender headed. I think they are just concious of that fact that a lot of little girls are.

My youngest DD has very curly hair that gets tangled easily. She cries just about every other night when I am brushing it after shower. :sad2:

She did BBB when she was 3, and not a single complaint...

I thought for sure there would be a major scene, but she was fine. :thumbsup2

I think it also plays as part as to who is doing the hair. For example, my 7 year old cousin has fine curly hair. As soon as my aunt tries touching it, she screams. Yet when her "favorite cousin" (me) combs her hair, not a peep. I think some girls will be into the whole experience and I've heard the FGIT are very gentle and aware of the girls.

I plan to get a couple of inches cut off right before our trip. It always seems more manageable immediately after a cut.

We decided to make it a surprise. She is getting an invite to a "princess day" BBB followed by early dinner at CRT. I feel like if she knew about it, she would be excited.

Also that makes a LOT of sense. The spray we use specifically says on the bottle spray and wait for the spray to soften the hair. I have never thought about it, but that could be part of the problem. Thanks for the suggestion.

Another fear!! Where do they even get those hairstyles from? IMO they look like bad light socket injuries. :scared1:

My DD(4) is awful when it comes to hair brushing! I cannot get it done without crying and screaming. That said, she had no problems with BBB. we had an afternoon appt, so I put her in pigtails for the day. After they showed her what was going to happen, I sat on the bench and combed her hair out without a peep from her!

The only thing I will say is that my DD's hair is thick, and she's got a lot of hair so after about an hour the rubber bands in the bun started snapping and it completely collapsed.

On a side note, I recommend investing ($15?) in a Wet Brush. They can be found at most salons or beauty supply stores.

I have super long, thick hair & even as an adult, brushing my hair is a chore that I hate. My Wet Brush gets tangles out SUPER fast and really doesn't hurt (I'm probably a little tougher than a little girl though but still, I'm sure it will help).

My DD4 cries every time I brush her hair - even if it isn't tangled but... at BBB she sat perfectly still and never complained.
Last year she chose the princess style with the bun - unfortunately it was too tight for her and it came down 2 hours later.
This past fall she chose the pop princess one (I think is the name) with the crazy colors - it was so cool and she kept it in for 2 days with no complaints. You don't see too many of that style and she received a lot of attention from the characters over it (even during the parade a few would come over and "play" with the hair, Mulan went on and on about loving the colors, etc.)
the FGIT gave us a hint if her hair was too tight this year (for the year leading up, DD kept reminding me to tell them "not too tight" this time lol). She said when the hairspray they use dries it tends to tighten so if DD complained of it being too tight to just dab some water on her hair and it would loosen the style up a bit for her although we never had to do that this time.
As for her dress, we just take all of them and she picks which one she wants to wear whenever she wants then.
