Hello DISers! Well, I have worked myself up into yet another Disney dilemma. My husband is sick of hearing about my "problems" so I am turing to the DIS for help. See, these really aren't problems that I have. Just little insignigicant thoughts that I have about making our upcoming trip perfect!

So here's the deal...we are taking our kids this coming September (51 days to be exact) Our DS will be 1.5 and our DD will be celebrating her 3rd birthday while we're there. I have scheduled her for BBB on her birthday but I am having second thoughts. Here's why... it is a daily battle for me to brush her very long and beautiful hair. You would think that I was putting toothpicks under nails the way she screams! Anyway, I have been assured that the "fairy godmothers" at BBB will be more than gentle with her and she would love it. So I'm ok with that. But here's my new dilemma... I really don't want to put her in a Cinderella dress that day. I would rather her wear a t- shirt that says "It's my birthday!" or something along those lines and have her be comfortable. So my thinking is that if she's in a t shirt, wouldn't she look silly with her hair and make up all done up like a princess? So today I had the bright idea to get her haircut on Main Street instead. She's almost 3 and has never had her hair cut. It's really pretty but could use a trim. What better place to have your first haircut than WDW!!! Don't they do something special for 1st haircuts? Anyone know anything about the barber shop? Would I need to make an appointment? Ok, so that's it. Not too much of a dilemma I know. I just want my little princess' day to be perfectprincess:

Here is a picture of my baby and her locks. You can see how long it is. This is one of the few pics that I have of her with her hair down because we always put it up in a ponytail. Too bad she's not looking at the camera!

You can't make an appointment at the barber shop. And some people wait over 2 hours to get in! I couldn't imagine!
I think that they have dresses you can borrow at BBB for pictures?? Am I wrong, I'm not sure - I've got two boys!
But - if I did have a girl we'd do the BBB - for one main reason - you can make an appointment and won't be waiting around to get in. Plus, I think the hairdos are really pretty looking...
If you can't borrow dresses for pictures what abouta little sundress - like what she's wearing in that picture. I don't think they need to have a true princess dress on...
Just my opinions!

We're taking our three year old this september to the BBB. We settled for scheduling the appointment for late in the afternoon and then taking the monorail over for a fairly early dinner shortly afterwards. That way she can wear her princess dress just for her appointment and dinner and then change back into comfy clothing for the fireworks or whatever we decide to do that night.

I didn't want her to be too hot and uncomfy wearing a princess dress all day ;)

We are going in December, my oldest DD will be almost 4, and we are doing both for her. I plan on going to the Main Street Barber Shop FIRST THING IN THE MORNING for her first haircut (along with DD2), and then then next day going to BBB - wish I could reverse it, but we can't. I don't know about you, but I don't know when we will be going back, so I'm going to do everything we can when we are there!!! Enjoy it!

When we went to WDW in Jan 2004, my daughter had her "First" haircut at the barber shop! I don't remember any wait at all but perhaps things have changed or maybe we hit it on a slow day!
They do make a BIG :cheer2: deal about first haircuts.........if I remember correctly it cost around $15. The decorated her with about 20 stickers and then gave her a stream of stickers (About 30ish) to hold on to while she had her hair cut. They sprinkled her hair with "pixie dust"pixiedust: , ie. glitter! And she received her first Mickey ears with "First Haircut" embroidered on the back. All the hair that was trimmed off was gathered up and wrapped in tissue with a mickey sticker on top. We also received a certificate stating that she had received her first haircut at the barber shop on Main Street USA!! Not bad for $15!!
My 1yr old son is having his 1st haircut there when we go in a couple of weeks!:woohoo:
Hope this helps with your decision! Also I would recommend perhaps going early in the am when it first opens perhaps not a lot of people will be there?

You need to be 3 for BBB. Honestly I couldn't see a two year old being able to sit still lomng enough for it. Plus they pull the hair really really tight to get the bun or hair extensions to stay in. And there are a tone of bobby and hair pins used. I went to the BBB once. At the end of the day my scalp hurt from all of the pins and the tightness of the ponytail.

She'll actually be 3 the day we are scheduled for BBB so she's ok. That's what I was worried about, the tight ponytail, bobby pins, ect... I think I am leaning more towards the Main Street Barber but we won't be getting to the park that day until after lunch. Don't know!!!:confused3

I've heard that the barbershop is usually pretty open around 1pm?? Or maybe I just read that someone went at 1 and got in right away? I think it's really a matter of luck or something. Could you go saying, "well, if there's no (or little) line then we'll get her hair cut, otherwise we'll go somewhere special at home."??

My DS had his cut at the barber shop. We went first thing in the morning. There was no wait. He had a blue mickey head in blue gel on the back of his head. They spiked the top and put glitter in it. He was in @nd grade.

DD was in preschool. They pulled her hair up in a pony tail, styled it with pink gel and glitter. She had a pink mickey head on the backi.

They loved it. They got alot of complements throughout the day.

Thank you all so much for your input. I think I have come to a decision. My DH just got home and I cornered him into talking about this:rotfl:

Our original plan for her Bday was to wake up and have breakfast at Cape May Cafe (we're staying at BCV) at 10:30 and then swim at the pool. Then head to MK for BBB at 2:00. After that, take the boat to GF for a birthday dinner with Cinderelly at 1900 Park Fare.

Now, what I think we may do is bump up our breakfast to hopefully around 9:30 then head straight to MK for the haircut. Hang out there until about 2:00and then come back to the hotel for R&R. We can then all get dressed up, DD in her Cinderella dress, and take a cab to GF for dinner.

I know we'll be back in the future for DD's birthdays so we'll just do BBB then.

Whaddauthink?

Just a different opinion here but if your daughter is not big on getting her hair brushed then why not just plan something different & special for that day that doesn't involve her hair? My DD also hates having her hair brushed so we've never done the BBB. She's never had any desire to. What about just doing a character meal or something like that instead? First haircuts can also be a challenge. It sounds like they do a great job on main street but I take my kids to a really fun kids haircut place and I've seen some really hysterical kids in there, especially girls getting their long hair cut. Just not the way I'd want to potentially spend my DD's b-day.

Good point, and true, not sure why I keep coming back to the hair thing. I guess I was just trying to replace the BBB with something similar and because she really will need a trim soon. Food for thought. Thanks:)

I would love to go to the Barber Shop and get my niece (4.5) her first haircut. I have heard all the fun stuff they do. Not sure if anyone would believe that she has never had her hair cut at such an age-but true.

I think my sister would be extremely mad if I had her hair cut. Her hair is very curly and copper in color. It took forever for it to grow to her shoulder because it is so curly. I think it is now down to her armpit when dry.

JMO, I think if you want to avoid a long wait, I'd try to get to MK as early as you can. The Harmony barbershop opens at 9 and closes at 5. I have heard that the lines get to be very long. The 2 times we have used it, we waited outside at about 8:45. We were 2nd in line on our first visit and 1st on our 2nd. DS had his first cut there and it was great. Maybe you can do a light breakfast, head to the park and have breakfast there, either at the the castle or CP, or head over to GF for Park Fare after the cut.
I think you'll be just as happy with HB as you would be with BBB and you'll save a lot of $! It is just $14.00 for a cut at HB!

I just wanted to say that my DD screams and fights and hits and kicks and runs away when I brush her hair at home (she has curls that are a PITA to brush and get knotted up sooooo easily). She did BBB this past weekend and I was SHOCKED at how well she was. She sat there perfectly and didn't make a peep. She loved it!

Oh and you will see TONS of girls walking around with hair done up but not wearing a dress. My advice if you want the pictures and dress and all, get it all done, then change out of the dress into regular clothes and put the dress in the hotel room or a locker or something. The pictures are really cute

Oh and our boys have had a ton of haircuts on main street, if you get there as soon as they open, you will only have a person or 2 in front of you LOL
