DD has an appointment at BBB for our upcoming "girls only" trip. she is doing the Coach package (just hair and makeup). I was wondering, for those of you that have done this- are we supposed to tip the stylists (Fairy-Godmothers-in-Training)? I know that tipping is expected at a regular salon, but didn't know if it is at BBB.

I took my dd to the BBB in May, and the Fairy God Mothers-in-Training were not allowed to accept tips. They do have comment/compliment cards that they like you to fill out if you had a great experience, so definitely do that though.
Have a great time on your girls trip!

The only Disney cast members that are allowed to accept tips are in the restaurants and hotels such as servers, waiters/waitresses, bellhops, valet.

we let our DD have her hair fairy dusted at the barber shop in magic kingdom and they accepted tips there.

Oh yeah, hmmmmm, wondering why they won't let them have tips at BBB then if they can accept them at the Barbershop!

That's what I thought I'd heard, too- but I also heard what thrillriderbb posted- that the only CM's authorized to accept tips were the Mousekeepers, waitstaff, bellboys, and the like.

I guess I will call WDW-STYLE tomorrow and ask directly. I'll post and report what they tell me.

Please do let us know, that's very interesting to hear.

We have been to BBB twice and my girls loved it. I asked when I paid if I could add a tip for the Fairy Godmothers & was told both times that they do not allow tips. The CM at the register gave me comment cards to fill out, which I did.

You are right, though about the MK barbershop. They happily accept $$ tips there.

Do they stylists in BBB actually cut hair or only style it? Maybe it has something to do with that, maybe those who work in the barber shop are classified differently.

Ya know, I never thought about that. It actually makes a little more sense if they do cut the hair. Does anyone know?

From what I understand (and I may be incorrect) they stylists at the BBB are not liscensed professionals like those in the barbershop. Stylists can apply makeup and style hair, but cannot cut hair. Disney most likely pays the staff at the BBB a higher wage than waitresses, bellhops, valets, etc. so it is a non-tipped position.

They do not cut hair. They don't even have combs and brushes so bring your own.

My 10 year old went here and got the Disney Diva style. She had a great time and it looked wonderful.

They do not accept tips. I filled out a comment card instead.

I'm glad this question was asked as my daughter will be made into a Princess for her birthday on October 14th - she doesn't know yet :wizard: I'm glad everyone had a good experience and it's good to know about the tipping. :sunny:

You have to bring your own hairbrush??? :confused3 How do they style the hair without one? I would have never thought that I'd have to bring my own!

Shelby

P.S. My daughter is booked for the castle package 1 week from today!

They do have combs.

We were at the BBB 2 weeks ago, and they use black thick combs (the kinds used to untangle hair), which they give to you with the makeup they used and a glass of nailpolish, so they only use them once.

Yes, they do have combs.... they give them to you with everything else.

And nope, they would not accept a tip when we were there last week... just the comment cards.

Hi! Just called, and spoke to the BBB directly.

The Fairy Godmothers in Training CANNOT accept tips. They do encourage you to fill out a comment card, especially if you had a great experience.

Thanks for all the replies, y'all! Now I know I don't need to bring any extra $$ for a tip. Although, I think we might print out some of those CM Compliment cards and present our Fairy Godmother with one. I really do want to show my appreciation in some way!

That's interesting. Maybe they were out of combs when we were there because she asked if I had one and then just used her fingers to do it. I thought it was odd. It still turned out great.
