Hi,

How do they know how old your child is? Do they check wristbands to see the age? My DD is going to be turning 3 the day AFTER our trip, she'll literally be 2 days off from the 3 year requirement. She will not have a park ticket attached to her magic band.
Thanks guys!!

Ok, so we had the same issue with my DD. We did it anyway with no issues. They didn't ask, and she didn't say how old she was. Others have reported that they have had issues so be prepared if you decide to go forward. We didn't have any MB/ticket issues, but we did BBB at DTD that trip.

DD has done BBB again at the age of 4. We did it in the MK that time. Again no one scanned her band or asked for her ticket. I do think the FGIT did ask her how old she was that time though...just talking to her. She was 4 1/2 and clearly over three at that point.

I will say DD enjoyed the experience more at 4. She seemed a little shell shocked at almost 3. She just sat their wide eyed taking it all in. She didn't cry but wasn't super happy either. At 4, she loved the BBB experience.

I would be cautious about taking a child that was not the correct age. There have been reports of some children ending up with patches of hair missing after having their hair done at BBB. You can't exactly complain to Disney if something happens knowing you snuck your child in because she was "almost" old enough.

If you are staying onsite, you have to give the ages of children at the time of travel (in other words, the first day of your trip), and that information is in the computer and Presumably, the CM making the BBB appointment will be able to see that information when you make the reservation. If you tell them her age as 2, you won't need to buy park tickets, and she can't do BBB because she's not three. If you tell her that she is 3, she'l need a park ticket. You can't have it both ways. Honesty is the best policy.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I don't think the BBB reservation is tied to your other reservations ie dining and hotel so I'm not sure that the CM will see this information. Your BBB reservation is not tied to your MDE at all. I was worried when it didn't show up on MDE during our trip in May and called to ask to make sure I hadn't somehow lost my reservation.

Again, we took DD when she was a few weeks shy of being 3. While she enjoyed it, she didn't love it as much as I thought she would. At 4, she was really into it. YMMV.

Maybe it's not. I just figured they were smart enough to have everything linked up.

She isn't three. Unless you plan on paying for her tickets like a three year old, BBB shouldn't be an option. It sucks that she will be three so close to the end of your trip, but Disney has to draw the line somewhere. Save it for when she is actually old enough to do it and it will be an experience to look forward to.

I'm not sure what the phone folks can see. I know when I call to book BBB they ask for my resort reservation and they will say "I see you are booked at (insert name of resort). I'm not sure they can see the details because during the process they do ask my daughter's age. When I cancelled a reservation recently the agent could see I had a BBB reservation. This comes up quite a bit. I suggested on another similar post the family move the trip back a few days and schedule BBB on the child's birthday.

At Disney a Child never ages so what about a child who actually turns 3 during the trip, but the reservation will still say 2 for the length of the trip. Can that child not do BBB as the trip reservation says 2 but the child is legally 3?

We are in the same boat. My daughter will be turning 3 the week after our trip in a couple of weeks. I asked the lady on the phone about this--she noted that at DTD they won't ask to see her "ticket." She does have a wristband. She has had her heart set on this for a long time. She is very mature for a 3-year-old so she completely understands what's included. I'm just going to go for it. What's the worst that can happen? I can't possibly imagine why a week makes any difference whatsoever. Obviously they just want to make sure kids aren't too little to enjoy it.

And if by some chance you are turned away how will you explain that to a heartbroken child?

Well, that's why I and the cast member at the reservations center decided that DTD was the best option since they do not check ages. There would be no way that they would know her age unless they require a birth certificate. I think it'll be just fine. :)

You'll be fine we did this last year when our daughter was 2 but would be 3 in a few days. They never once asked how old at time of booking or at BBB and we were at the MK location.

Great. Thanks for the info. I wonder if I should go ahead and switch to MK as it'd be more convenient.

I certainly can't tell anyone what to do here. Just note, the issue has to do with the makeup not being tested or approved for children under 3. I'm sure you're aware of any skin sensitivities your child may have by now though. So just make sure you're good with taking full responsibility on the off chance the makeup doesn't agree with them. Same as you would if you buy a toy rated for 3 and over.
