Hi All,

Hubby and I are considering DVC purchase...interested in BLT.

Questions...please help me!! RIGHT AWAY!!

1. What are the current "incentives" for BLT people keep talking about that might go away June 15th??

2. Does someone have a link to BLT DVC info??? I am having a really hard time finding more info on BLT.

3. What is the date for opening...all I have found is Fall 2009??? Anyone have better info. than that??


5. Number to call to get things started???

BLT is opening 8/4/2009. Disney is currently selling BLT contracts at a minimum of 160 points and a price of $112/point. However, Disney currently offers an incentive of $8/point, bringing the contract down to $104/point. There are also an incentive of $6/point (or is it $8) if you have a referral.

If you buy BLT, the current use year is February. However, Disney will let you choose another use year if you desire.

One catch about BLT contracts: BLT points cannot be used for reservations at ANY resort until BLT opens on 8/4/2009. You can make reservations at BLT or other resorts right now, but your stay cannot start before 8/4/09.

There are lots of threads on these boards about BLT. Just due a search for BLT and you'll get lots of hits.

Our guide at DVC Disney has told us that 70% of current sales are for BLT and only 30% Animal Kingdom; thus, our guide thinks Disney will reduce the incentives at BLT so the AKV will be more attractive to new buyers. However, I don't think anyone really knows what will happen come June 15th.

What is the USE YEAR?? I don't get that...is that when your points are allocated for the year?? I know it was stated that Feburary was BLT use year...is that a good time to have it or would I want to change.

We would probably always take trips end of May and mid November just b/c of my hubby's work schedules...

You are right: My "use year" is February, so I get my yearly allocation of points as of February 1st each year. I then have from 2/1 until 1/31 of the next year to use my points. If I don't use or BANK the points, I will lose those points.

I can bank any points I don't use into the next use year. For example, I have 210 points that I got effective 2/1/09. I don't plan on using any of those points between then and January 31, 2010, so I will BANK all 210 points into my 2010 use year. On 2/1/2010 I will receive my 210 points for the 2010 use year, so I will have 420 points (210 Banked for '09, and 210 for '10) to use during the period 2/1/2010 to 1/31/2011.

One rule about Banking points: I can bank as many points as I want into the next use year, BUT I have to bank those points during the first 8-months of my use year. DVC members cannot bank their points in the last 4 months of their use year. So, for me, that means if I want to bank any of my points for 2009, I have to notify Member Services by September 30th. If I forget to bank my points by that date, I have to then use those points by January 31st, or I'll lose them.

This might sound a little confusing, but after you read some of the literature from DVC, talk to a guide, and read some of these threads, you'll get the hang of it in no time.

No one really knows what will happen but that is what everyone is being told. However, if you start the process with BLT (and I am assuming that you have gotten plenty of offers for a referral already), you will be eligible to change the contract to better incentives if they come out before you close the contract.

So, if you call your guide and get things started next week, you will lock yourself into the current incentives (which can be found at dvcnews.com). It takes at least a week after you pay the deposit to get the paperwork, and you have 10 days from then to sign (and if you tell your guide you need a few more time, typically it is not a problem).

That gives you time to take advantage of what is happening right now but not lose out if the incentives are better shortly after you buy.

Of course, if you are no where near ready to buy, then don't worry about incentives. If they go away (and I believe they will--but not for more than a month, IMO), then you can wait until they come back.

You can call DVC to get things "rolling'. They will send you out the Dream Book that cotnains all the details on t he plan.

I am in the process of buying BLT right now. We started looking last year and took the tour this year. I have the contract in hand and am about to sign.

BLT is opening this August. The point about not being able to travel before BLT's is open is probably a mute point for you since it will take the next couple of months for you to get everything finalized anyway. You can still make a reservation for after the August opening.

We signed for the base 160 points back in April. Our incentives were either 1) an extra set of points or 2) a free 3-night cruise AND $800 credit which we were able to put towards our downpayment. We opted for the cruise for this year (because we still got our regular 160 points for 2009); we are going on the cruise in September!!!

Thanks wdrl for the great explanation of use year. We too are looking into purchasing BLT. The guide was trying to explain it to me. Your explanation helped clarify it.
