I have been trying to come up with a somewhat relaxing (haha) vacation for Christmas 2017. Unfortunately that is the only time of year that all five of us can vacation together due to school schedules. My dd is a teacher and my ds is in college. The trip would consist of my myself, dh, ds, dd, and her fiance. In order to control costs, I am trying to get us all in a one bedroom villa. We do love club level though and were considering staying in a suite club level at any resort. However, the one bedroom at Bay Lake Tower is so much more cost effective! I received a discounted room for a cash stay as I am out of points.

Do you think the villa will seem too tight? I am just wondering your first impressions. Would you rather have a one bedroom suite club level? Would you just skip Disney World all together and just do a beach vacation in a two bedroom villa at Vero Beach for five nights with December 30th and 31st in a Wilderness Lodge Deluxe room (2 nites)

Curious what you think!
Thank you as always, you guys are great!

A BLT 1BR has 2 full bathrooms and is 803sqft, so it's larger than the 565sqft AoA suites (that sleep 6)

The biggest concern is the sleeping arrangements. You would have the king bed in the master, but the others would be sharing the living room and its queen pull out couch and double pull out chair.

It really depends on how close you all are. It would work great for some, but others would hate it.

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, WDW during Christmas week does not fit the bill, unless you are planning on hanging out at the resort a lot. For that amount of money, I would look elsewhere. We've been in WDW over Christmas week and though we managed to have a good time, I, personally wouldn't do it again. If those are your only two choices, I would do Vero Beach first and then head to WDW.

I'd rather go to the beach than Disney that week. I would look for someplace more southern than Vero Beach though.

I would go the Vero Beach and WL option. Just hope you catch a warm week so you can enjoy the beach. I think 5 adults in a one bedroom for more than a couple nights is just too tight. We have four adults on our next trip and I booked a two bedroom, so everyone has plenty of room.

We love Bay Lake Tower - it's our favorite for location. We've only stayed in the 2BR suites, but there is a ton of space. 9 of us stayed there in October and we didn't have a problem, so I imagine fewer people in a 1BR wouldn't be bad. That being said, Disney would have to pay me to go during Christmas week!

True, in addition to privacy, that's my concern how comfortable with the sleeper chair be for an adult male ?

The pull out chair is a twin or slightly smaller.

I would ask your children how they feel about sharing the living room.

You'll be fine, go have fun. :) We spent our travel lives cramming into just big enough rooms. Yeah bigger ones are cool, but you've got your reasons and your budget all lined up so it sounds totally workable. If your kids are excited and down for the sleeper then it's no big deal. It's not like we haven't all slept on a sleeper before.

Unless everyone is super comfortable with each other, I don't think a 1 bedroom offers enough privacy. Assuming you get the bedroom, that leaves your daughter, her fiance, and your son all sharing the living room on pull out beds. There would be no private space and that is tough for an adult couple. The first time I travelled with my family and a significant other I was engaged, and I would not have been comfortable without my own space for my fiance and myself. To each his own, though. I think a 2 bedroom would be much more comfortable, and your son could have the living room. Speaking from experience, the sofa beds are not comfortable! This is also an issue for some adults. A two bedroom is significantly more money, however, and I get the need to control costs. I'd ask your daughter and her fiance how they feel about that arrangement and go from there.

Actually it's my son in this case I am concerned about. Due to work and other family issues he did not have nearly as much vacation time with us over the years and I am giving my daughter and her fiancé a Disney wishes wedding in June along with a mini vacation for immediate family members for 7nites at akl club followed by a Disney cruise concierge level five day honeymoon after the wedding. Actually it's his turn I feel. Keep in mind that they are all under the age of 23 :)

That time of year may be hard for relaxing :)

I don't know if you (your family) would be interested in going this route. Maybe look into a 2 bdrm at AKL/Kidani. It would give you all the space you need at a better price. You *may* be able to get a 2bdrm for what you were anticipating to spend on a 1 bdrm at BLT. Personally, I find AKL is relaxing in itself. Out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the busy holiday week.

Can I join your family?

That's one of my biggest concerns ... if the weather isn't warm at vero, what else is there to do?

We went to Hilton Head one year for Christmas. It wasn't very warm or sunny but it was very relaxing hanging out on the beach with little to no crowds, shopping, dinning and whatever. If your goal is something relaxing, I'm sure you would be fine at Vero.
