I mentioned on here the other week about converting my airmiles to 'The Virgin Voucher'. We had looked at their sale - perhaps we could have gone to NY - but after being out of work for a month and effectively having no pay in August money is tight this year so conversion to vouchers seemed a good idea for us.
Called Flying Club on Saturday - converted 37500 to £150 of vouchers which arrived on Wednesday.
Yesterday I called VH to buy the attraction tickets - I had decided to buy just 2 tickets at £90 each - so total cost to me was £30 (wil get DH & DS's tix from somewhere cheaper) and oh what a nightmare - 50 minutes I was on the phone!
Initially I was told I had to pay £180 and they would refund the £150, then I was told no I cant use them as I am not booking a package. I explained that they they were 'The Voucher' not Virgin Holiday vouchers that I got as a result of collecting so many compensation airmiles due to their poor service last year - wrong thing to say as she now thought I had VA compensation Vouchers!
I explained that the vouchers I had were ones that anyone could buy by going to www.virgin.com/voucher and listed where they could be used and the T&Cs for each area ...... and after 45minutes of this she finally said 'I'm so sorry you are right!!!'
Having gone to the lengths to check this was permitted prior to converting to vouchers this was crazy - the problem is Virgin have so many vouchers the women did not know what I had and the fact that they call it 'The Voucher' did not help.
At least it got sorted out, but having suggested this as being a good way to save money on attraction tickets, I felt it best to warn people you may need to battle on it.
Ending result is two 2Park bonus tickets from British Airways for £154 and 2from VH for £30 - total price £184 = £46 each.
