Battle over Transportation

When going to WDW do you rely on WDW transportation or do you use a rental car or your own car?

Last year we flew down and had a friend's car to use and we never used it. We loved having WDW busses take us and not have the hassle of loading the kids up and driving ourselves. In fact, we are driving this year and DH wants to use the busses. I'm afraid this may cause a little bit of a problem as we will be eating at alot of other resorts, mostly MK resorts, and if we drive ourselves then the time could be cut in half. On the other hand DH says we're on vacation and we're not in a hurry, good point.

So what do you prefer?

We do this all the time, but hardly every rent a car. If we don't want to grab a bus to DTD to the resort, we grab a cab. It's easy and fast.

Disney transportation is excellent - take advantage of this service.

We've been 4 times in the last 7 years and have never used anything other than Disney Transportation.

We prefer a rental car. I just don't have the patience to wait for busses, then they make stops, during peak times you have to stand or if you get a seat you have someone standing over you. People come in with strollers bumping into you. No thanks, I'll get into my rental car, turn up the AC and radio and go in comfort. I have no problem driving around WDW and areas outside (we got to the outlets and offsite restaurants).

Altough we always have a rental car and enjoy using it for some hotel restaurants as well as to go to MGM and AK, if most of the spots you will be dining at are in the MK resort area, it is easy and FUN to use the WDW transportation options there.

But I wouldn't worry about it now. Just go with the flow. If the buses aren't working out well for you, you can always switch to the car.

I am not a 'bus' person. I do not use them. That doesn't mean they are not a good idea. I always rent a car and I always use it extensively. The only time I use Disney transportation is the monorail. I also enjoy taking the boat over to Fort Wilderness if we are doing the Hoop Dee Doo. We dine out at a lot of resorts and also use the waterparks. I would just not want to use the bus. I'm usually tired in the evening and just be on my way.

Now, if I were able to go to Disney at non-peak times, I would consider "bussing" it.

We have stayed at WDW resorts 33 times and have always used WDW transportation only. We do go during the slower winter months. I just don't feel like driving on vacation and have found the WDW transportation to be fine.

We rented a car last week and will do so again. I loved having the car there when we were ready to go and the wait for parking lot trams was a lot less than a wait for a bus. We used the bus a couple of times but preferred the car.

WDW has great bus transportation and it runs smoothly but I prefer a car.

So what do you prefer?

In order to go from your resort to another resort you have to take a bus to Downtown Disney or one of the theme parks and catch a bus to the resort you want to go to. That might add to the time you have to wait to get to your dinner.

Buses for me. To put it simply, I love being in the Disney cocoon for a week when I go there. It helps with the escapist fantasy of being on vacation. I never leave Disney property. Disney has a very wide array of dining, from fine dining to yummy bad-for-you junk. I'm voluntarily, happliy trapped. I love it, and wouldn't have it any other way.

I've also had a lot of great conversations on the buses and, yes, waiting for buses. I love talking to people who want to talk.

I agree with CleveRocks. I like leaving the real world behind and that includes not having to drive or be the navigator during our stay. We enjoy riding on Disney transportation along with all the other folks enjoying their time in the World. Yeah, it takes a little longer but we're on vacation.

It also means that both DH and I can have a glass of wine or a drink when we go out for dinner since neither of us has to get behind the wheel to get "home".

ITA. We love being quarantined in WDW. DH says he doesn't want to worry w/ driving as we will be driving enough on the way there and back. So if it gets to be too much of a hassle we can always use our car.

It kind of depends on where I am staying, OKW, where the car is parked closer than the bus stops, I used the rental exclusively. I tend to go with what is easier to use with a stroller, I hate getting on the buses with a stroller , as everyone hates to see you getting on with it as well. If I can take a boat or the monorail, I will take them, otherwise take the rental, as I have young children. If it were just me and my wife, I would not drive at all.
