Excellent work Ed! 70-300vr? Nikon shold sponsor your using that lens- exceptional results as usual. You must sell them a bunch of those lenses.

I have to ask- what is the 'Eat at own risk' guy serving?

The silhouette with the horses & smoke is my favorite. (So much I looked up how to spell 'silhouette'. ;) )

Thanks, Jeff, and yes - D80+70-300vr on all; all the rest of the gear stayed home.

Not sure what was being served at the At Your Own Risk Cafe', but we passed. Good ol' PBJ's were waiting on us back at the car!

I was pretty happy with the silhouette shots. I really wanted to try for some "muzzle blast" shots, but couldn't get in the correct position to try it. Even then, it comes down to timing (and a good burst rate).

Thanks again for the kind words; it was a fun dad-n-daughter-adventure day.

I love the last two. They are all fantastic. The "eat at your own risk" sign made me smile. I should hang one of those in my kitchen. ;)

Good work - and what a fun thing to be able to shoot.

Nice photos, as always. I've always heard good things about the Selma reenactment from some locals I knew growing up that were reenactors and would travel quite a bit around the SE.

Is there actuall sasparilla in those bottles? There used to be a guy that would be at Olustee reenactments with fresh sasparilla in glass bottles that was amazing, but he stopped coming. Makes me sad. :( We would buy up many of the large bottles of the stuff to have for a few weeks after he was gone because it was so good.

The Selma event has always been the premiere event in the state. This is the first one I have been to in 8-9 years, and participation seemed WAY down; less than half the number of infantry than I remember. Of course, the last time I went to Selma, I was shouldering an Enfield instead of a Nikon, so my perspective was somewhat different this time. (BTW, the soldier in #3 is an old friend, and was the C.O. of the regiment I was conscripted into, back in those "Enfield" days!)

AFAIK, the bottles did contain sasparilla, although we did not partake. The sutler found some unique bottles to market his beverage in, though, and I thought the bottles made a good "still life" subject.

Very nice as usual. I really like the coloring in the first shot with the bottles.

Very nice work! Love the last two. Nice combination of a good lens and great photography skills.

Actually, a combination of good lens and decent burst rate, but thanks for the compliment. It was a fun day for YEKCIM and Daughter-Of-YEKCIM.
