Battery won't come out of Nikon D40

Hi

I just got my D40 which I got used from eBay. All looks well and as described, but I can't try it out because the battery needs a charge, but it won't release with the press and release function It is the original EN-EL9 apparently. Are there any secret tricks I am missing?

Before anyone suggests it, I am not the type to stick things into battery chambers etc

Any advice would be appreciated.

Never mind. Took the initiative to call the Nikon Support Centre and got it sorted.
