We have TWO bats in our house right now. One is in a bedroom upstairs and the other was flying around but may have flown out the front door.

How do we get them OUT???

open all windows & doors

they will use their radar to head out

we had one once, it kept flying back & forth in a room till we opened the door

you can try flappinga towel to get it in the right direction, or throw a sheet over it & toss it out, do ya got a big fishing net? ( just asking as we have one for our pond.. never know what people have)

The one in a bedroom left (we think). Now the other one is in the entry way. We have a cathedral ceiling so it's very high and in the corner. We had the front door open but it seems pointless to keep it open all night as the bat seems content to sleep right where it is. My brother tried to get the one in the bedroom with a pillowcase while it was hanging but it just flew around after that. We had the window open though so it finally (hopefully and we aren't mistaken) flew out.

We had one in our house a couple of years ago...my husband was worse than me (and I was freaking out).

Good luck!

Be careful about killing them, I know in NJ it's illegal.

EEEK! You poor thing!!! :scared1: One thing to be careful of is that they can hide in a curtain or under the curtain rod where you can't see them. They can be so tiny when they want to be.

We had a bat infestation once and I'll never be the same after that. When I hear them start to squeak at night, I break out into goosebumps.

One thing we were always told to do was trap them with a broom against the wall.... after that, I never was sure what you do once you get it there. Or toss a bath towel over it while it's flying.

We just left the windows open, closed off the room he was in, and he left all on his own when he got hungry. He didn't want to live here - we were painting the week we moved in and had all the windows open, even those that were missing screens. He must have wandered in through one of those, and he apparently went out the same way the next night.

We have since realized that we have a LOT of bats in our neighborhood and never to leave the second floor windows open if the screens aren't intact!

Eeew! I would hide in the other room and call animal control. We had one that lived in our upstairs window for awhile. I still don't open that window. *shudder*

I live in a 1903 home that was a bat haven when we moved in. If you have found two bats in your home, I can tell you that is not the only two you have. Your attic, or if you have knee-walls, etc, is probably full of them. They can squeeze into the tiniest of places. For our problem, we plunked down $500 about 12 years ago and paid a company that just specialized in bat removal to remove our bats. They are able to see tell-tale signs of where they are entering your home. They will then insert a special item that will allow the bats out, but not back in. Bats will leave at night, but then they cannot return. It is the most humane way to address them, in my opinion. and we have not had one bat since. We used to hear them scratching and squeeking when they were in the spaces between our roof and ceiling.

By the way, if you have a few bats that have gotten from your attic into your home, you have to shag them out. We had one land on a shoe and we simply took the shoe outside and waited until the bat flew out. A couple of others we trapped into a tuperware container against a wall and then took them outside and shook them out. They are scary-looking things and creeped me out when they got into our lving spaces.

That thought certainly wouldn't cross my mind if I had a bat in my house! I would be scared to death of rabies.

That is a misconception. The majority of bats do not carry rabies. Only about one-half of 1% of bats carry rabies -- a very low number. You have a higher chance of getting struck by lightning or winning your state's lottery than being bitten by a bat with rabies.

Oh, we'd never kill it. Just don't want it in the house. :)

It is sleeping right now, hopefully there aren't anymore. We are calling some critter people right now.
