I'm freaking out! Iam scared out of my mind! And of course the attic door is in my bedroom. I'll be up all night....

Keep a bright light on. Bats don't like light. I would probably sleep in another room though!

That's just awful. I am sorry you have to go through such a scary ordeal. Around these parts, you can't touch bats due to environmental laws. You have to wait till they leave on their own.

They won't hurt you, though the little things are scary looking.

Your best bet for getting them out of your attic is to call a professional bat handler.

When they're all gone, put screening over your attic vents and seal up any potential areas they may fit through.

Aack is right!

I don't really have any wise words to pass along ... just good luck!! I hope you can find a way to get them out soon!!

You'll want to make sure they are removed from your attic. Bats leave droppings. A very good friend of mine ended up with encephalitis from bat droppings in their attic. It was an old house that had a lot of droppings. Somehow, particles from the droppings got into their house through the vents and made her very, very sick. She almost died. Bats are nothing to mess around with.

Call someone to remove the bats and treat the attic asap!!!!!

From what I've read on the web, we live in Ohio and this time of year bats have their babies so if we locked them out now they would just come back and be crazed to get back in any way they could. So the recommendation is to wait until it's cold out and they migrate away, then board, caulk, plug up anything even remotely looking like a hole in the house. It said they can squeeze into a 1/4 of an inch hole or gap. I am sleeping down stairs with lights on tonight!:scared1:

The dr that I work for had bats in his new(old)house and he did some research and found out that the whole family had to get rabbie shots. He did some medical research and found out in a medical book that there was a guy that had batts in his attic and started to get very ill and died. well after an autopsy they found out he died of rabbies. My boss didn't take any chances and the whole family got shots. Talk with your family dr and find out what you should do.

I think I would have to seriously move away. :scared1:

Just to prepare you..... the going rate for bat extractors in my area is $1000 to $1300 PER BAT!

This is serious. The guano (bat poop) is very toxic to humans....it can cause blindness.

Did anyone see that show (maybe a 20/20 type?) about the woman who bought a house with bats in the attic and she lost part of her vision from the guano?

Is this a rental or your own house?

We had to do that once!

We rented a house that had a really bad bat problem and our landlady would not take care of it at all. Since we'd just moved in and paid all the deposits and everything else related to moving, we couldn't afford an exterminator. She thought it was great to sit on her back porch and watch all the bats fly around our house because she loved bats. :sad2:

Fortunately, she did let us out of our contract with no penalties because of the bat situation. But still, it was just nuts.

Call a professional to see what the cost is to remove them and your options for cleanup

My mom had this happen many years ago. Call your local animal control and they will monitor the situation.

In illinios the law required that my mom do nothing until they moved out in the fall/winter.

You need to find their access point. They will leave around dusk to feed. Watch where they come from and count them. The babies will be left inside until they are old enough to feed/fly alone. That makes it impossible to seal now. You'll just trap them until they die.

In my moms case none ever entered the house.

Once they left in the fall she sealed the house and they animal control people sprayed something on the guano. The bats didn't return.

Bat droppings can cause various health hazards. I would have them removd ASAP no matter the cost.
We have them outside our home near our chimney. I have dh check periodically to see if they have gotten into the house, they have not. We will call someone to remove them because I don't want to take the chance of them getting into the house.
After removal seal any area on the outside of your house where the could get in, and put fine mesh screens over any vents because they will come back. We had gotten rid of ours on our own and within a year the were back again. Also if you have someplace near your house you could put up a bat house so they go there instead.

We have a 3 story barn. The entire upper floor is empty, not a bat in sight. Do ya think they the could live in there? Nope they want to terrorize me instead!

I think they sense fear
Maybe after the are removed they would find your barn more hospitable :goodvibes
