My 7 year old DD is taking a Baton Twirling Class at her school. The class was only $35 for the season. But you needed to buy your own baton which was $40 shipped. I did get a good baton and it will last her several years as she is petite and does not grow fast. I got an inch bigger than I really needed. But now I am looking for a Baton case and can not find one under $20 shipped to me. I have already put too much money in this class but I really want her to have a case for the baton so it will be protected while at school. Her class is right after school so she does have to take it with her. So does anyone have any ideas and yes I looked on ebay. My MIL suggested making one but I am not sure if I could..

Thanks in advance

One of the most popular consignment shops around here is the used sporting goods one. Do you have one of those near you? They might have something.

Could try Freecycle maybe or depending on the baton look at the cases for pool cues they are cheap and might fit the bill.

Look at amazon and wal mart and target have them also

They are a lot more sturdy than you think. My DD took baton for years and never had a case and never had a problem. won't it just fit in a small duffle bag? that is what she did.
Be careful buying bigger tho. Has her teacher seen it? It is better to be smaller than bigger, it may hit her body if it is too large. Especially when they are new.

I was a majorette. I took baton lessons for several years starting when I was your daughter's age. I never had a baton case. When our band traveled on buses to away games, we still never used a baton case. I think a small duffle bag would work to keep the baton in while at school. Hope that helps! :)

I twirled my way through middle school and high school. I never used a case. Is it a requirement?

It is not a requirement for the class but at school it has to be out of sight which means in backpack or bag. It will not fit in the backpack. Her coach did say to purchase the 22 in because she measured right on the 21 in line. She also said she would get a few years use out of it. My daughter grows slowly. She will not be very tall. My 2 year old will probably by pass her..

I just thought a duffel bag would just be to big. She does not have to wear anything special. The only requirement was to buy your own baton..

Thanks

I would think a long thin drawstring bag (or even just put a tie on the top) would be very easy to make. You could probably even whip one up with fabric glue.

I can't really sew but my MIL can. SO I am sure she will try this weekend when we are there. Thanks fo rthe lonk to the ebay ones. I would prefer not to have vinyl but I might have to go with that..

when i was in the colorguard we had to have flag bags for our flags, rifles, and sabers. One of the mom's would pay to make it if you weren't talented. But we used them to store our stuff and made it easy to find when they were piled together.
I also had to use it at school (last class of the day was colorguard) and made the teachers less annoyed about carrying it around.
I know a 6ft flag is different than a 2ft baton, but a simple bag like i had would work nicely and she can put in an extra t-shirt or what have you for her sessions. Keeping it seperate from her school stuff. I'm sure i still have the instructions on how to make it. Very very easy directions to follow.

STAR batons & cases are the best out there. However, a case really isn't necessary until you're more experienced & need to carry around multiple batons/swords/flags/ribbons/tape/etc. Can't she just keep it in her locker? Also, to keep it clean, powdered dishwasher/laundry soap and a little bit of water will do the trick!

Sandra9810 - I would love to have the instructions.

And no she does not have a locker to put it in or even a desk. She is in 2nd grade and they have table and chairs - you know 4 kids at a table kinda set up. She does have a cubby bin but I think it isn't too big maybe just for papers. She has a hook for her jacket and backpack. So ideally a bag would work best so it could be hung from a hook and not be kicked around all over the place for her not to find..

Thanks everyone.

Simple as can be to make a baton case if you need one. This will hold 2 batons, or maybe even 3 if you use Star Minis. All the girls in my group made these for ourselves back in the 60's. A seven year old could easily do it under Grandma's direction. Should take about 30 minutes to do.

Buy 1/4 yard of ripstop nylon, + 1 1/2 yd yard of 1 inch grosgrain ribbon. (Ripstop doesn't get waterlogged if you get caught in the rain.)

Turn down a small hem on the wrong side of each end of the fabric strip and sew it down.

Cut off about a foot of ribbon. Carefully pass all ribbon ends near a flame to stop them from fraying; be careful not to set the ribbon on fire. Use a zigzag stitch to sew the short strip securely crosswise on the right side about 6 inches from one end of the strip of ripstop. (This is going to be your tie.) Next, line up the rest of the ribbon down the center of the right side of the ripstop piece so that one end is about 1 inch up from the natural crease, on the opposite end from the ribbon crosstie. Stitch down both ends. (This is your shoulder strap.)

Last, fold up the ripstop inside-out lengthwise and stitch up the sides securely, being sure not to catch the ribbons as you go.

Insert batons into tube and tie the crosstie around the open end. Hang on shoulder to carry.

I would take one of her ballet leggings or buy a set thread yarn through the ends. then just sip it into the book bag, tip out.
$5 under store has leggings, and Kmart should have them on clearence next the hats and gloves for women.

Target has a section with dance ware for kids maybe they would have something.
I would not want to carry anyting extra, just a cover for it.

I remember as a kid taking violin, and the tip caught a seat and slammed into my pubic bone sending me to the floor in pain.....
So I would tuck it out a site as best it can....sideways it should just about peek out.
Gee $40 was very expensive, I bought dd at local music stores and they were about half that. Same with ballet shoes, from the recommended mag was $$$$ but the Payless was cheaper, and Walmart too.

The coach requested that we get one from Star Line Batons. I did pay maybe $5 more to get a little decorations - stars on the tips.. I got the Venus. It was $31.50 but then you had to pay $8 in shipping but the good thing is I ordered today and it has already shipped and will be here Thursday. And yes I done standard shipping.

this brings back such wonderful memories! Unfortunatly it's been over 20 years since my twirling days. I carried my baton EVERYWHERE.. once even into church! I was so used to having it tucked under my arm when I left the house I didn't even notice I had it until my mom asked me what I was planning to do with it during church :-)
