I have a *weird* question for you all - how do you keep all of your toothbrushes, toiletries, etc. "organized" in the bathroom?? The toothbrush thing is my biggest worry - we have 5 of them! Don't want to pick up germs by just having the brushes laying on the counter. Does anyone pack their toothbrush holder to take with them on their trips?

Please don't think I'm weird or obssessive. I just want to have a "neat" bathroom without things spilling out all over the place :)

What about using a cup or glass from the room as a temporary toothbrush holder.

Someone else on these boards suggested using a clear pocket over the door shoe or jewelry organizer. (got a cheap one at the Dollar Store).

I am using them to store all kinds of stuff: sunscreens, extra batteries, tylenol, combs, hair accessories, and all the small stuff we will use once per day.

I used blank address label to mark each pocket for the items.

I am also buying an additional shoe holder to keep everyones pool shoes and extra shoes in as well.

I'm hoping that this keeps the counter clear and as far as the toothbrushes go, you could wrap the handle of each brush in a washcloth and put one per pocket in the organizer.

I worry about that too and have used the glass as a toothbrush holder and a facecloth flat on the counter to set things on, but the shoe bag idea is excellent! Another tip into my (growing) file.

At our dollar store (Dollar Tree) they sell a pack with either five or six (can't remember) toothbrushes in it and they each come with a cover that covers the bristles. The cover is the same color as the brush, so no mix up, and all brushes are a different color. All this for one dollar!

I buy these all the time for my guest bathroom for when family comes to visit, as they always forget toothbrushes. At about 20 cents each, I throw them away when they leave.

If you could find this, you could buy one pack and use them for your trip. The bristles would be covered, so the brushes wouldn't touch each other when put into a cup as a temporary holder. At the end of the trip, toss them all, just in case, so you're not taking any germs home.

Great ideas! Thank you!! I think I'll look into getting some "travel" toothbrushes at the Dollar Tree, keeping them in a cup on the counter, and tossing them when we're done.

I do have an over-the-door organizer that I use for our sunglasses, money, room keys, camera, etc. - all that stuff you need as you're walking out the door in the a.m.! I'll have to buy another for the bathroom door as well - that will save a LOT of counter space & make it easier for the maid to do her job :) I always worry about her wiping down the sink or whatever and splashing cleanser/dirty water all over our "stuff" lying around the sink.......

Thanks again!

I'm glad I'm not the only one :D

We keep the toothbrush plastic holders that came with them when they are brand new and use these for our holiday trips.
This was ever since we found a big bogie left on one of the brushes in NY. It was disgusting...obviously a huge joke to the maids. Never leave your toothbrush out - you never know who may be sneezing on it, cleaning their teeth on it or doing a number of wicked (but unseen to the visible eye most times!!) things on it!!!! :smooth: :teeth:

That is AWFUL, Selina!!!! I am so disgusted!! We will all definately keep those covers on our toothbrushes at all times! I think your story is one of the grossest I've ever read here on the DIS boards.......

I know...but your post reminded me! and since we are on to gross stories.......if you are ever burgled always throw away your toothbrush!! Recently I read in the tabloids about a family who had been burgled while away on holiday. The burglers used one of their cameras to film themselves sticking the toothbrushes up their backsides...honestly it's awful, but true! The camera was given in to the police months later from a junk shop, who suspected it was stolen and when they developed the film - saw that. Obviously the ID's of the burglers was known to the police too. But the AWFUL thing was that family used those toothbrushes all that time...Erghhhh!!!

We have travel toothbrush holders that cover the entire tooth brush. They were about a dollar at Wal Mart. That way none of the toothbrush is exposed. And everything just gets tossed back in on top of our suitcases when we're done with it, so that no maids or anything can do much to them.

I have a toothbrush cover that I bought from Target. It's plastic and completely covers the bristles of the toothbrush, it has a suction cup on the back of it so you can stick it to the mirror and keep it out of the way. Works for me. :D

I was at Deals (dollar store) today -- they had a kids' travel toothbrush with a "cat" brush cover, and the base of the toothbrush is a suction cup so it can stand up (or maybe stick out from the wall for creative bathroom organizing?)! A travel-sized tube of kids' Crest toothpaste is included... what a bargain!

We often get back to the resort to find mousekeeping have left us those toothbrush holders made out of facecloths:D

Now THAT is the most grossest toothbrush story!!!:crazy2: :crazy2: :faint: :faint:

Yuck, yuck!!!

I don't have a hotel cleaning story, but instead a home story. We used to have a cleaning person every couple of weeks and one of them used my daugher's toothbrush to do cleaning. Thankfully my DD noticed that it was dirty before using it!

Did you see that recent study that eating boogies was good for your health. I think it's reffering to your own boogies but you never know:teeth: It has something to do with getting your system exposed to the germs trapped by your nose. If I only had this data when I was a youngster I could have shown it to my mom after she whacked me in the head for picking:teeth:

If it was up to my wife we would have a portable UV sterilizer on every trip. I on the otherhand think it's good to be exposed to germs it improves the immune system just ask any nurse who works in a hospital.

Did anyone see that recent episode of "High School Reunion", where the sophmore girl, the one who is after the other girls husband (I forgot her name), takes all the other girls' toothbrushes out of the cup holder and rubs them all against her armpit??? UGH!
Then, they showed one girl brushing her teeth with hers! I can't believe the camera crew didn't warn her! I usually take ours in a big ziplock bag, then put it back in the suitcase when we're done using them. I also take a hangable cosmetics case that has many pockets to put all kinds of things in. It is very, very handy. I keep my shampoo's in a zip bag, also, so they dont leak all over my suitcase.

edited just to correct spelling mistakes! I have gotten spoiled by spell check on my email program, so I type fast, then rely on that to correct everything!! Just me being lazy....I really can spell :p

It's not just toothbrushes though is it. I guess anyone could get really paranoid if they really thought about it. What is to stop the assistant chef from putting a bogie in the delicious "house" specials of top restaurants or in pies, stews, sweetcorn relish - you name it there could be one there!! Do the cooks always wash their hands after visiting the bathroom!! Where have the fingers that made that delicious burger been!!! How do you know that the last person to be staying in your wonderful deluxe room was not walking on the same carpet bare foot covered in veruccas or athlete's feet! How clean are the glasses in the bathroom - has someone been really sick and used one, then maids just rinsed. Best to not dwell too much on it I think!!!:teeth: :p ;)

we keep toothbrushes in travel cases and keep all toiletries in hanging freedom bag
it hangs on back of door and keeps everything off counter big saver
