Bathroom observation

It could be worse. When Disneyland first opened, half the toilets were pay toilets and half were free. There's a story that Walt needed to use the restroom and all the free ones were occupied and the pay ones were empty. He didn't have a dime to use the pay toilets. So he ordered that all toilets in Disneyland be free ones. :P

:thumbsup2 This! Who needs fancy or themed public bathrooms. My requirement is clean & sanitized, neat, and functional and in the case of Disney - large! :goodvibes

I want themed toilets! If I'm paying hundreds of dollars a week to be in the park, I want Minnie handing out towels! I want Cinderella mopping the floor! I want to go into a stall in the Royal Sommerhaus bathroom and hear " Let it Go" over and over until I flush!

The renovated one by Space Mountain is nice. The ones by City Hall were under renovation when I was there 2 weeks ago.

So sorry, but I have to disagree with the OP. I love the thumbing in the Rapunzel bathrooms, the Space(y) theme by Merchant of Venus, and other really pretty tile designs and door designs. But...really...I only do 1 or 2 things in there....who cares? Clean wins over theme!

Has anyone noticed though that if there is a line the mirrors still cause a back up? They seem to often be right near the door and then people want to stand there and primp and no one can get out! I've encountered that multiple times which I'm not sure if it's better or worse than people primping at the sinks.

Does Disney really think we need instructions on how to wash our hands? In most park restrooms is a sign above the sinks stating,

Wet Hand and apply soap.
Scrub hands and rinse.
Dry hands thoroughly using paper towels.

Without those signs I surely would have left with wet soapy hands many times.

So, I've never seen this mentioned online, and my friends think I'm nuts for noticing, but, I'm really surprised by the bathrooms in the parks. Don't get me wrong, they are clean and function as they are supposed to, but I am surprised by their blandness. For all of the money, time and creativity that goes into the theming of every aspect in the parks, I'm surprised that the bathrooms look like middle school boys rooms.

I know that no one wants to spend too much time in there, and Disney doesn't want people loitering and extending waits, but, some theming would be nice. Continue a color palate or font somehow, something simple. I'm not talking about thrones for toilets or anything.

We're all going to spend some time in the bathrooms every day, a little fairy dust (don't read anything into that, no pun intendend) wouldn't hurt.

Thoughts?

They aren't always bland...I still love the Alice in Wonderland bathrooms at DLR where the stall doors are playing cards. The Tangled ones are nice (on the outside anyway), but Alice is the most themed IMO.

I've wondered why the bathrooms aren't more "small child friendly." It was always so hard to hold DD up to wash her hands when she was younger. I always wished that they had those flip-down stools under the sinks that some public restrooms have. There are so many small children who go to WDW that I know they would be used.

Actually, I wished they had some of those small toilets like some family restrooms have. They are so much easier than the big ones for small kids. The bathrooms outside of the Barney show at Universal have some small sinks and small toilets, and I always think that it is such a thoughtful touch.

I don't know, I have always thought most of the restrooms are themed quite well and differently, colors and materials.

I agree. My favorite are at Hollywood studios. I love the bathroom near the ramp up to TOT. I went in last time and there was not a person in there (rare occurrence) and I took the opportunity to take a picture of the tile work on the floor. Also the bathroom in The Brown Derby is quite nice. Very themed to the period.

I never really thought about it, but you are right, some of the bathrooms are bland. Others are very nice and "themed". If you want beautiful, themed bathrooms, go on a Disney cruise; those bathrooms are gorgeous.

I have a friend who did a scrapbook just of the bathroom theming at Disney using bathrooms from both Disneyland and Disney World- I think she did at least 50 different bathrooms and all of them had some color/decor from the area they were found in.

That was one of my great joys as a parent of a toddler. Most WDW bathrooms have a much lower sink that my child could easily use.

i appreciated most WDW bathrooms, I could tell that Disney hired high quality tile installers, even if the tile styles were no longer current in design magazines.

I remember the Planet Hollywood had great themes....

Aren't those usually for employees, and required by the Health Department?

Some counties require restaurant bathrooms to have signs saying employees must wash hands. In some restrooms at Disney there are such signs in addition to the instructional signs by the sinks.

:rotfl2:
It's not over the top to me to take some pictures of cool features (as some folks in this thread have posted) but the WHOLE scrapbook of just bathrooms cracks me up! (No pun intended)

A thousand times this!!!

Before we even got into the parks, I noticed even within the Grand Floridian that some restrooms had a small sink and others didn't. I was surprised that it wasn't standard across Disney property. Once in the parks, I made a point to notice if restrooms had a small sink or not. Roughly half did across the 3 parks we visited and the various resorts (mostly monorail resorts). I had expected to see the small sinks in newer restrooms, but that was not the case. It was very confusing as there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to where they decided to install the small sinks.
