This is what my DH and I did over the last week. The former owner liked to paint. A LOT. The paint was so thick that I (w/the help of my kids) peeled it off the walls rather than sand. I would say if you count the price of the machine DH rented to remove the thinset for the old tile we spent under $1,000 to do it. I kept the fixtures but added the shelves that replaced the medicine cabinet. Older DD picked that shower curtain and rug when we moved in. I just rolled with it and the fixtures. The bottles are vintage and most of the beads etc. hanging on them were my grandmother's. Everything else is Home Depot, Target and Kohl's. I'd like to add a chandelier but didn't want to push DH too much.

Oh wow. That looks fabulous. Want to zip over and do two bathrooms here?
As long as I don't have to peel five layers of paint! :rotfl2:I love doing stuff like this, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Thank you. :goodvibes

That looks amazing! I love the shades of blue and the shelves and mirror.

That's very impressive -- especially for the cost. Extra impressed with how lovely it looks and that you did it yourself!

Awe, thanks. Other than the tile, the most expensive was the vanity/cabinet/mirror. I'd had them on my wishlist forever when they were suddenly put on clearance AND there was a bathroom sale. I got them for less than those cookie cutter off the shelf types you can go in and buy the same day. The tile is the same as the kitchen so I only counted the price of two boxes. Unlike a lot of couples DH and I work extremely well together on renos. We've done three kitchens (hopefully I'll be posting our current one soon), several bathrooms, two living rooms and countless bedrooms. He's done laying tile I think, we'll have to hire someone for the upstairs bathrooms.
Looks great!
Thank you.

It really looks lovely! Although, all I could think when I looked at it was, "How long would it take my kids to have this looking like a dump!" But, I think that's a "my kids" problem, not a general bathroom problem.

I feel your pain on the paint. Our first home was ~140 years old when we bought it, and they had just layered paint on wallpaper on more paint and more wallpaper. We literally pulled everythign off in sheets. My mom decided to help us, gave a good pull on one section, and all the plaster underneath came down, too! It was right down to the wooden slats. What a mess! Luckily, our current home isn't as old and decrepit--just don't look in the kids bathroom!

Haha! My younger two have their own bathroom upstairs to trash. Older DD (grown!) on the other hand is a wave of destruction the minute she walks into the door. I'm not sure where I went wrong there. I've made it my mission to be a complete pain in her butt about picking up after herself in MY spaces. I've taken to tossing all her crap on her dresser after one warning.

It's beautiful! I notice there's no backsplash (which is not on the vanity top I just put in either). Is this a new thing?

I'm not sure, most of the styles I looked at did not have them. I may eventually put one in there. We'll have to see how it goes. The sink is fairly deep and the faucet tall, so far it doesn't seem to be an issue.
