We called the day before the trip to make the reservation, but we were very lucky to get the last spot available. I would suggest calling ahead of time.
They have about 9 guides and 3 reservation times per day. You go out for 2 hours of fishing with a guide. Our guide took us to a great fishing spot. He would bait the hook with live shiners and throw the line out if you wanted him to. He would even take the fish off of the hook and hand it to you for picture taking. All fishing is catch and release. The times are 7 AM ($183.00), 10 AM ($174.00) and 1:30 PM ($155.00). Cost covers boat, fishing guide, equipment, etc. for up to 5 people.
He took us straight out from the dock at Fort Wilderness, to the other side of the lake. He goes where he knows the fish are biting. Like I said, we (my DH and I) caught 16 bass, several were over 3 pounds. We're going back in March and taking our 3 year old grandson. He said he could take us to a great spot where the little guy can catch tons of blue gill.
We felt it was well worth the cost. You can rent a pontoon boat on your own, but you're not allowed to bring along fishing gear. You can only fish with a guide on a fishing excursion.
