We're just starting to research cruise lines. My son, now 11yo, saw that RCC has a full-sized basketball court on one of its ships. He is now convinced that we should go on that cruiseline. My DD thinks that there is basketball on the DCL. Can anyone confirm? If so is it on both the Magic and the Wonder? How about other recreational onboard activities for him (he would be 13yo when we'd probably be going). I'm not so sure that he would like the teen activities--he tends to be more athletic and would enjoy the sports. Maybe by then things will change, though, and he would be more into the teen clubs.

Both DCL ships have a half-court size basketball court, though the court is, from time to timne, used for other activities.

Although I'd say that there are more athletic activites on the RCCL for your son, I have no doubt that he will LOVE the activities for the teens on DCL. My kids are 11 and are salivating for their cruise on DCL in two years because they know what activites there will be.

What you may want to do is check out a Teen Navigator at http://dcltribute.com/ . That will list most of the activites.

Thanks, Mike! It's hard to juggle the wants and needs of a family, especially since we're dealing with a large age span. My thinking is that if we are ever going to do a Disney cruise that it's now (or should I say in 2 years) or never. At least my youngest will still be at a great age for it (will be 7yo).

They have the basketball court, which is also used for street hockey, soccer, etc. There was a lot going on when we were there. Although RCI has the rock climbing wall, it is not always open, and not always for children.

We just got back from a 7 day Western....with DS16, DS15, DS15, DD11 and DD8. This is a very large age span with children with all different wants and needs. The boys all loved the basketball court and played for hours.

My son Daniel, bounced passed to another child he did not know the very first day...the kid missed the pass (I guess the pass must have been pretty hard) and everyone watched the ball bounce over his head and right into the ocean.......everyone laughed and could not believe it.

I have sailed RCCL, and I would choose Disney any time over RCCL.

Are the other activities that take place on the basketball court organized and are they for teens?

Thanks, T&B

That is funny! Hopefully they have a lot of basketballs! lol

Sounds like my son would do ok as long as there is a basketball court, even if it is a small one.

My husband enjoyed playing 3 on 3 onboard. He's so excited that he's going with his own "team" this year (our son & his cousin's son).

If you want a goof, you can watch the basketball court from inside your stateroom. There's a channel that shows the view from the bridge area, and aside from a view off the front of the ship, there's a great view of the basketball court. I swear there are people out there nearly 24 hours a day. It's really well-lit, so playing after dark isn't a problem.

I didn't know they did street hockey. My DS7 would love to play (he plays on a mites team). Do they have skates on-board or do we need to lug the equipment from home?

Last April, my older DS (18) practically lived on the basketball court on the Wonder! There were kids of all ages up there, and he loved going up there especially in the evening. The older kids (altho not many in number) would get together to play, and then go together to get something to drink and snacks to eat, and then return to play more basketball. DH and I would go up and watch sometimes....all the kids were great about including everyone, even the younger kids. And we loved being able to watch him on the TV in the room...he never did find out about that, come to think of it!!!

I like the idea of the camera! Not only could I check on him, but if he wanted to go play he could check first to see if it's crowded or if there's any cute girls there playing. ;)
