Basic question about borrowing

I've been a DVCer for about 4 years now and have never had to borrow, so forgive my ignorance. When making a ressie that will necessitate borrowing from next year's points, do you officially borrow the points at the time you make the ressie, or can you simply make the ressie and borrow the points at a later point in time, even up to the time of your stay. I hope I'm clear with the question. Many thanks for your help.

You need to borrow the points when you make the reservation. I just did this today - I'm already into 2005 points!! Yikes.

It must be handled as you're making the reservation. Member Services will tell you your current point balance, points required for the reservation, and the number that must be borrowed. They will then give you a "spiel" on how borrowing is a final transaction, borrowed points cannot be banked, blah-blah-blah.

When you give them the verbal OK, it's a done deal. The points are moved to the new Use Year and cannot be moved back even if you cancel the reservation.
