Basement Spinoff

We have adequate storage. Full basement, enough closets, a loft in the garage with a pull down stairway, and an attic over the other wing of the house. Plus a storage shed out back for the lawn mower and garden tools, etc.

I have a B&W framed poster of Cher on the inside of the shed door. Back from her "If I Can Turn Back Time" days, the view is from her rear, and she's only wearing fishnet stockings and a leather jacket. You can see the tattoos on her butt. It cost $1 at a neighbor's garage sale about 10 years ago, but DW wouldn't let me hang it in the house.

Not nearly enough storage here! We're in 1500sf with 4 kids still at home, lol. I'm sure you can imagine! No basement, but we do use our attic for storage. Closets are all small or odd shaped. Pantry is narrow, but deep, Same with coat and linen closet. No garage. We do have a shed for lawn stuff, too. Mostly, we're kind of minimalist, so we've made it work for almost 20 yrs in this house. I am really looking forward to getting a bedroom and closet back as the kids move out. ;)

Yep quite a lot, but I am a big time purger so I don't use all the space.

My husband has a chintzy gold framed photo of Britney Spears that he won at a carnival when he was a teenager. It is hung in our basement at the end of the one hall near the laundry room and workshop; I felt that was generous, LOL. Having a finished basement is definitely good for hanging up all sorts of random nonsense like old Disney posters, mini NASCAR cars, beer pint cups from random places, black lights, all my old Beatles and Smashing Pumpkins posters from when I was a teenager, Lego display shelves...

No basement, but plenty of storage for 4 when our kids lived at home in a 2010 square foot house. Even more now that is just the two of us.
Looking at the building boom in self storage places though, a lot of people need to throw stuff out. My wife and I are big fans of Love It Or List It on HGTV and always laugh when Hilary Farr comments that the homeowners don't need more space, they need to throw stuff out. Some of the huge walk closets I see on that show stuffed with clothing are a hoot.

Lots of storage in our basement. Big walk in closet in spare bedroom (bigger than in upstairs bedroom) and space in the unfinished laundry/utility room.

I guess we are just not pack rats/spenders as storage is never been an issue at all. Our house is just under 1800 sq feet.
If the kids moved their stuff there is very little left - photo albums/genealogy/kid momentos, some travel stuff, our bikes, some workout equipment.
We haven't kept CDs, tapes, records, books, etc. Just have basic Christmas decorations - enough for one tree and some other things. I have some craft stuff. Handful of board games.

I have a ongoing box for charity and throw stuff in there and drop it off every few months. Clothes that I don't wear I move to the end of my rack. If I haven't worn it after it's been in the danger zone for a few months it goes in the box.

Nope . We know we have too much stuff, and currently rent a way too pricey storage unit. Goal is get rid of that ASAP. . Would love to have a basement for more storage.

I've redesigned the interior of my older house because of space issues. There was a sunroom converted from a porch, but it was adjacent to the existing kitchen. Created a kitchen out of the sunroom, which included rebuilding the entire sides roof and floor once we got into the project.

Renovated the 2nd story to add a bath and increase closet space, reducing a bedroom to a smaller office nook. Main floor bedrooms needed better closets so we took over the coat closet and added it into existing bedroom closet.

The 2nd closet in that room - it had 2 hard to access closets in opposite corners - was added to the adjacent bedroom, doubling that room's closet space.

Meanwhile, the basement kept filling up with too much stuff. So, now I'm downsizing my stuff and donating and tossing. I haven't seen some of that stuff in 10-15 years. Had the kids come through and get some of their abandoned treasures.

By the time I've finished clearing, it may be time for me to sell and move. Who knows?

When we moved to the house we are in now, even though it is much bigger, we still went through a great purge. Our kids were out of the baby phase and we got rid of a bunch of stuff. We still brought too much and need to go through it again. But the older I get, the less stuff that I want and need. I have never been a tchotchke person and we do not have any curio cabinets or shelves that have random stuff on them. And at this point, I am thinking that if I have not used it in the last 5 years, I am going to get rid of it.

In the house, I have plenty. But I could really use a garage or a bigger shed than we have. It is a pain taking the lawn furniture and bikes and such down to the basement for winter because there's not enough room to keep everything in our outdoor storage space.

No basement, but tons of storage. 2 bedrooms have 2 closets, a third has 3, and the master suite has a huge one. There are other closets, too--bathrooms, hallway, even the garage. We also have a large sunroom and a "pool maintenance" room that's DH's workshop. When our neighborhood was built in the '60's, this was the builder's home--plenty of closets, plenty of outlets. The sunroom, current garage, and master suite were all added on since the original build. Even with 6 people, there's plenty of room. Since the garage was added on, the original garage is turned into a dance/games room.

Let's just say.....I would love just one more closet!!! No basement and only 4 closets in our little house is just not enough! DH says just put it in our unattached garage but I don't need to store anything with critters!! :scared1:

We have good storage. Our basement is about 3/4 finished and 1/4 unfinished storage. There are huge wooden shelves in there that we store all the holiday decorations on. All 4 bedrooms have big double door closets that are good sized (no walk ins though). We have 2 attic spaces. One is a pull down ladder that goes to the area above the garage and the other is a little cubby door in one of the upstairs closets that goes under the eaves. The garage is 2 car, but we only park one car in there and use the other half for storage.

Yes, we're good with storage. We tend to do a "purge" of stuff every year where DH will do a good survey of our "inventory" and determine what we need and what we can toss. He usually does a big Ebay sale of stuff that has accumulated over the year.

I always said if I ever built my own house it would have a dedicated storage room - easy to access on the main floor!

I keep way too much stuff, but have been working on decluttering lately.
