Hi

we are going to be in Orlando from 1st and 2nd Sept 2014 and again 10-13th Sept 2014 and would like to go and watch a baseball or football match.

A college game would be just fine. We've looked online and can't find any games on around those times in Orlando. Anyone got any knowledge on this?

Between these visits to Orlando we're going to be in Vero Beach 3rd to 9th September 2014, so again, if anyone knows of a football or baseball match down there that we could attend we'd appreciate your advice.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Hi Steve -- Welcome to the Dis boards. I'm from the U.S. & a college football fan. Here's some info for you.

College Football
Univ. of Central Florida (Orlando) does not have a home game until Sept. 20. (Oddly, they are playing their first game - vs. Penn State- on your side of the pond in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 30.)
Other Florida universities are probably too far to drive from Orlando--Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Boca Raton & Miami.

I did notice the dates you will be in Vero Beach & I can't find any games within an easy driving distance.

I do have a slightly "off the wall" suggestion for you -- if you want a real slice of Americana -- you might try finding a high school football game to attend.
They usually play on Friday nights. (Occasionally on Thursday nights in some places.) I'm not from Florida so I'm not sure if any schools play on Thursday nights or not. You will need to ask locals about who is playing & when & where.
It should be really inexpensive. It will be low tech as well.

An alternate suggestion would be to go to a sports bar on Saturday afternoon and hang out with people watching the college games. That can be fun as well.
(And, by the way, just FYI, baseball & American football play games, not matches.) Here again, just ask around to find a good sports bar.

I hope this helps.

Hi Mary

hahaha lol I had to laugh about the "play games, not matches" bit of your reply, as I'd corrected myself with "games" lots of times when I'd been speaking to friends about "matches"

Thanks for the full information, it's much appreciated. My current thinking is to go to a high school game, low-tech Americana sounds great.

Whatever game we go to we'll raise a cheery glass to you!

Never seen a baseball game as boyfriend said they can last a looong time (???)but last time we went to Florida we decide to watch an NFL game at Tampa and it was fantastic.

The game was great to watch, they had entertainment at the end of every quarter (it was the season opening match so not sure if they do that for every game ?) and the atmosphere was fantastic. Many people there were so friendly.

Absolutely loved it :thumbsup2

We have been addicted ever since, even getting the season pass for this years NFL in London games.

I think the tickets were maybe about $90 each, but that's just off the top of my head. We bought them off ticket master whilst we were over there and picked them up at a booth when we got to the game.

We watched the Yankees play the Blue Jays at the Yankee Stadium last month .... I'm not particularly sporty but I love a good game of baseball, especially when Derek Jeters playing ;0)
