I don't think we're technically allowed to... but when you say "Oh, I'd like to be Ariel for the next game" before the sign-ups, most DISers respect that "dibs" and won't call it before you in the next sign-ups.

You can play a princess if you want to!
If someone took Cinderella, sure I'd be sad, but I could always play her next round. And that way I could experience playing a new character
