ESPN's Jayson Stark says that the Phillies rejected that deal.

And ESPN Radio is saying the Mets have offered Kris Benson to the Orioles for a reliever.

I heard that too, but I doubt it. The reliever they are referring to is Jorge Julio. I can't imagine Omar would ever make that move. It would not be the first time ESPN jumped the gun and mis-reported something.

Thanks--couldn't remember his name. I hope you're right (I'm a Mets fan). I like Benson. But if they could get someone good, I'd have no problem with him getting traded.

And now they're reporting that the Rangers are competing with the Yankees for Farnsworth.

And the Mets have traded some minor league pitching to the Marlins for Paul Lo Duca.

Reportedly, the Indians are going to sign Paul Byrd in the next day or two, 2 years, 14 Mil. Eh, it's an ok signing if he's replacing Scott Elarton, not so much if this is supposed to replace Kevin Millwood.

I'm a Yankee fan, so I'm hoping they get Juan Pierre as their new center fielder. I loved Bernie, but it is time to retire, and I'm not a big fan of Bubba Crosby. It seems as though the only two players on the Marlins that are untouchable are Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera, which I think I read somewhere.

I gotta say that the Mets have had the best offseason so far and if they get Manny, I would say they are the favorites to win the NL. Another subway series would be nice, with the same outcome as the 2000 series, of course.

It should be an interesting week at the Winter Meetings, as there will be more trades, rather than free agent signings. I don't know what the big deal is about A.J. Burnett. Two words: Carl Pavano.

Another thing I forgot to mention. I can't believe Philly would give a 3 year contract to Tom Gordon to be their closer. Philly fans, you're in for a long season. Take it from a Yankee fan that saw too many games this year where Gordon couldn't get a 1-2-3 inning, let alone get 1 out to get out of an inning. I don't care what the "experts" say, I'd rather have Kyle Farnsworth than Tom Gordon any day.

Does anyone think Barry Zito will get traded? I think he will, but I can't picture him on a team other than somewhere in Cali. I've read he's a surfer so coming to the east coast isn't really an option, which leads me to ask: Do you think there will ever be a MLB who has a home in Hawaii?

From what they are saying - Bradley for Zito talks are on. I would love the Mets to try for him - they are always in the running for him because of Peterson.

What do you think of that offer for Peirre - Hen and proctor - It would be huge for the Yanks of the Marlins accept that!

I am curious to see where manny goes - he is on my fantasy team and is a keeper - LOL

That's because the free agent market is so weak this year. Thus a mediocre player like a Burnett can get bigger money than in past years because he's the best available pitcher in free agency this year.

If anyone wants to truly improve their team this year, it's going to have to be via the trade market.

Nickunited: I read in the Post the other day of that offer of Proctor and Henn for Pierre. That would be great for the Yankees, because they would not be giving up much. Henn was horrible when he was called up as a spot starter. He wasn't much better in Triple-A but some Yankees scouts say he's got a lot of potential. I certainly didn't see it. I like Proctor for certain situations, but not much. I wouldn't be upset at all at losing those two players for the best bunter in baseball. Yeah, Pierre's OBP was dpwn last year, but take a look at the rest of the Marlins and they weren't any better.

There are only two teams I can see Manny going to- the Angels or the Mets, with the Mets being the more likely to snag him. If he doesn't go to either of those teams, he'll be in Boston next year.

If they get Manny - I am sure they would give up Floyd and Millidge - unless Boston will take a Benson, Floyd and someone else package - Benson is very talked about right now.

Yankees improved their penn with Farnsworth. Their starters would scare me though - I mean do you really think Wang and Small are both for real! If they are - then the Yanks will be fine. I am not huge on Chacon either!

While she is on the Very Very Very attractive side - she needs to calm down!!! I mean -She has every right to say what she did on Howard but it had to embarass him. Not to mention - the rest of the Mets probably try to get him really drunk - so that he will cheat on her.

I dont think she has a right to bash the organization He plays for - thats his job. He will be made fun of this!! Poor guy - he is a good pitcher too - I wonder if other teams see this and worry about what might happen if they sign him.
