Barry Hussein????

Besides, Hussein is not even a parody, it's his actual name. You look silly crying about people calling a man by his given name. :lmao:

And you look silly trying to pretend that hate and/or fear isn't playing a role in why SOME DISers are using the name Hussein.

I don't think it is an insult to call Barack Barry because Barry is the name he used until he got to college. He called himself Barry in high school, I believe he is listed as Barry Obama in his yearbook.

MsA

And now he chooses to call himself something else. I think it's disrespectful to call someone by a childhood nickname that they no longer use.

Honestly, I think people who refer to him as "Hussein" are just making themselves sound ignorant. :confused3 Calling GWB "W" doesn't have the same veiled implication, and anyone who feigns innocence in calling Obama "Hussein" isn't fooling anyone.

Barry doesn't bother me at all, I think it's kind of funny.

No, it isn't "kind of like W." W was embraced by the bushies and the President and his family as a fond nickname. The posters who use it with regularity use it as a slur and an insult.

Thanks for assuming my intentions, but you are 100% WRONG. :dance3:

We used to call my cousin Jim, "JIM JIM" because he had the same name as his father.

Shall we continue to do that now that he is in his 40s?

Please. It's meant as an insult. It's childish. And, ANYONE who does it shows the world their ignorance, their stupidity and their inability to debate facts and issues using their brains instead of acting like a moronic schoolyard bully who can't rub two neurons together to form a substantial thought.

It's immature and does nothing more then show everyone reading just how immature the person using it really is. If that's the face they want to show people, then go ahead, but they shouldn't be surprised when people don't take anything else they say seriously. :rotfl2:

I think people assume alot from a casual post or even a signature ... I mean reading your signature for example insinuated that all the countries listed were liberated exclusively by the USA ...... when that plainly and very obviously is nowhere near fact or truth.

Hussein is a dig in the ribs - its not a 'fond' nickname, but then 'dubya' was a dig in the ribs too ..... it was intended as a southern stooopid sounding name for him alluding to his brain power perceived by some to be somewhat lacking.

Obama - who I think and hope will be a great president (I am so glad he won) - unfortunately inspires many many people to jump on both the 'you are racist/anti-muslim/how dare you' and the 'racist/anti-muslim' bandwagons.

People have been far too quick to label anyone who crisitices him as racist and non-tolerant. Its reverse racism in effect. It has brought out the worst in both in some of his supporters and some of his opposers. Shame on all of them.

Well said! :thumbsup2

Please note that I do not refer to him by using his given name of Hussein, but rather (sometimes) by the middle initial H. Now for those of you who can take that and extrapolate it out into some sort of statement about my character and/or intentions, all I can say is "Wow". FTR I hope the guy succeeds too. I don't think he will, but it takes a coldhearted son-of-a-gun or a crackpot to actually hope for the suffering or demise of her/his own country. Last time I checked I am neither.

We've had to put up with eight years of internet hilarity in which 43 was referred to as dubya, shrub, etc. I hardly think 44 being referred to as H is worth all the cannon fodder that's being unleashed on this thread. However, it is your inexorable right as Americans or other assorted DISers to leap to any conclusion you want. So don't let me stop you.

.

thats an excellent statement - no matter WHAT party you support, surely everyone should be most focused on making the country the best it can be - and in this economic climateit needs everyones help.

Well bless your heart....that is so nice that you are able to get a good laugh once in a while. In these dire times I guess the fact that you are able to maintain a sense of humor is to be commened.

Well, bless your heart too! :goodvibes

It's not always about intentions. And you know that.

You, personally, may not mean it to spread hate, or to imply that Barack Obama is some sort of Muslim terrorist, but others do.

Calling him "H", or "Barry", etc. is disrespectful...period. And you know that too.

It's a little dig in his direction and in the direction of his supporters.

Sort of like all those people who say he isn't "their" President.

And if you find no disrespect in these actions, well, I just don't know what to tell ya'.

I, personally, feel that those with upstanding character, even those who disagree with Barack Obama and his election, could see the rudeness and pettiness involved. But, that's just me. :hippie:

Zip - I don't think it is a big leap when I've read many posts by you, and others, on the conservative thread using the terms in a demeaning manor. I won't bother linking, but you know that on the conservative thread people have gone on-and-on about President Elect Obama being a terrorist, or inferring it, as well as other guilt by association claims.

If you felt it was wrong to refer to President Bush as "W" or Shrub, then why would it be okay for you to do the same thing?

I do think I may have referred to Bush as Shrub once or twice, and it was wrong. I know that. Sometimes we get a little to caught up in ther back-and-forth, and our darker sides come out.

I'm just amazed at how much hate there is toward President Elect Obama. Let him take office and see what happens. I'm hoping for the best for this country. I hoped for the best under President Bush, and sadly it didn't work out.

I have no problem using W. I have no problem using H. I have made the mistake of calling 44 by his actual name "Hussein", which I now understand is a hateful slur. I understand I was wrong in doing that.

As for critiquing 44's choices for cabinet, I don't see where it's hateful to do such a thing, just intellectually honest. I'm hoping for the best for our country too, but I'm just not seeing it. Remember, dissent is patriotic. ;)
