OK, when I was at Universal, I thought I'd try out the 16:9 aspect ratio while recording. However, when I capture the footage on my computer using ImageMixer, it shows it as a 4:3 aspect ratio, which means it distorts the picture...yuck!! Do you know if there is any way to preserve the 16:9 aspect ratio when capturing footage onto my computer??

Also, haven't figured out why it won't capture sound at all....ughhhh....

I see you got your "extreme ghostbusters biggest fan" tag back!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

yep!!! :teeth: I'm glad...how dare the tag fairy remove my title!! :p :p :p

Oh yeah, Barry: I noticed that when I played the widescreen mode on my TV is stretched it out there too! Why can't I view it in that mode??? Don't tell me it's just for the HDTV's...that would suck...

I think that you have to check the settings on the camera. On mine there is Sepia, digital, optical, low light, and garner modes to choose from. I find the video is always the best and most beautiful in garner mode.

Well, I've never used the 16:9 mode or ImageMixer, so I'm not any help in this. Does it capture in Pinnacle Studio?

guess I could try Pinnacle Studio. I still can't figure out why they'd have the 16:9 mode when it can't be viewed or captured that way...

It depends on the camera, but from my understanding, it seems your widescreen 16:9 was recorded anamorphically. I say it depends on the camera because most proffesional or prosumer type cameras would record widescreen anamorphically, while consumer type camera would simply letterbox the image to acomondate widescreen.

When the camera image is letterboxed, that means that the exisiting frame is cropped, meaning that the actual captured widescreen image will be of a lower quality and resolution then the full frame image. When cameras capture anamorphically, the widescreen image is recorded smooched into the full frame , perserving the quality and resolution.

I know during the festival we had filmmakers bring us anamorphic Beta prints, whereas we had to adjust the settings on our video projectors in order to strech out the image to full widescreen.

The good news is that I'm sure there must be someway for the computer to strech out the image for viewing and editing. The bad news is that most consumer type editing programs probabaly don't have that capabilty. Then again, I could be wrong.

Well, bummer. thanks Kevin! I have Pinnacle Studio 8 and haven't found anyway to create the widescreen (thus, I believe it's not possible with that program...). Kinda disappointing because all I'm looking for is a way to view it in widescreen mode because it looks much better. It didn't even need to be edited, just viewable as widescreen mode...just for personal viewing.

I'm going to Universal either tomorrow and Wednesday so I'll probably just let it be in full screen mode (sigh) so it's not distorted.

Too bad I can't afford those nice, pricy software packages.

Anyway, my camcorder is the Sony DCR TRV-22, and so I'm pretty sure it's using the letterbox method, you explained. I had read up a little about the different widescreen modes on some website.

Sighhhh, that was Jennifer Garner mode in case you missed it.

lol Prince Eric...I had gotten it, but was trying to find an answer before I fought back ;) I just really want to be able to watch the Ghostbusters Show in widescreen mode!!!

I figured, but what better way to hijack a thread. I tried to do it subtle.

yeah :p At least the quality isn't too bad on my Ghostbusters video...still viewable...:p Now to record the Holiday Ghostbusters show tomorrow!!! :teeth:

Well, I decided not to try the widescreen mode again until I found a way to view it that way, so I just recorded the Holiday Ghostbusters Show in the fullscreen mode. My mom and I are about to watch it to see how I did for seeing the show only a couple times before I recorded it! :teeth:

So how much Jennifer Garner footage did you get?:p

lol none...sorry ;) BUT my mom and I just watched the Ghostbuster Show footage...even after seeing the show a few times, we were cracking up as much as we did the first time we saw it...I didn't do too badly videotaping. :)

Oh! LOL Well, maybe when we meet up...I'll bring my camcorder and you can watch it ;) You have to see the show in person first!!!! :teeth:
