Bareminerals foundation...

I have very oily skin. A few years ago I tried Bare Minerals...didn't like it. Two problems I had: 1) when I sweat in the summer time, it made my face itch. I must have been slightly allergic to something in the powder, 2) it looked great for the first couple hours, but once my oiliness broke through it separated and looked all clumpy.

I tried BM back when it first came out. The Rever Upper (I think was the catchy name) burned like fire when I sweated even a tiny bit. The makeup did cover, but it also broke me out bad. Even without the rever upper stuff I still broke out. Now I use either Laura Gellar or IT Cosmetics.

I have porcelain fair skin, and rosacea.
After allot of trial and error I've found what works for me is PUR cosmetics 4 in 1 mineral powder and their own specifically made powder brush.
I wear the blush medium shade in the summer when I have a bit of sun kissed colour and in winter to warm up my paleness. When I need just coverage & will be using blush or bronzer - I choose their shade called Light.

Excellent coverage even when I have a rosacea outbreak. Easy to apply and layer when needed. SPF 15 sunscreen built in. Love their brushes.

Up here in Canada it's available at Shoppers DM. (or on the Shopping Channel) In the US I've bought it at Ulta ;)

If you have an Ulta near you they usually have someone who will demo bare minerals on you and let you try it out. A lot of malls also have bare minerals boutiques in them now too

I've used Bare Minerals for years, and I love it. I go from fair skin to very tan throughout the year, and I also have rosacea, and while it really doesn't dim the redness, it doesn't make my skin look fresh and dewy. Which is quite a feat, given that I'm 51 with normal 51 year old wrinkles. I don't use the primer and I really fluff it off the brush sparingly, and I don't find it "settles" in my wrinkles at all. I think sometimes people use too much without tapping off the excess and that is why it looks cakey. Oh, and I use the same color year round even though I go from light to tan. It doesn't seem to make any difference on me.

What's funny about BM to me is I can use either fairly light or medium beige, they r both listed as neutrals it just depends on my level of tan, I have found that mixing them together gets me the best match unless it's may thru sept...when my tan is darker, if I go too light....it looks powdery like a pp said:rolleyes:

I was just looking at the bm barepro compact foundation, that looks really nice also and the reviews are pretty decent..so many decisions ..lol

I am certainly not disputing your findings, I just think it's interesting how the same product can work so differently for different people. I tend to take a while to find what I like and try a lot of different things (be it makeup, clothing, foods, medications etc.) but when I find the winner, I'll stick with it forever.
Yep! I try and try and try. Once I find a few things I like, they stay in my arsenal forever!

Either that or I've looked horrible for the last ten years and nobody has bothered to tell me lol! Oops!
"Horrible" is a little extreme, but I was just like you in the bolded above. I LOVED the powdered minerals when I first found them and never would have switched if the product hadn't been discontinued. I though I looked fine but I was truly shocked how much better the cream looked on my older skin.

No matter what product you use (powder, cream, liquid), I'm a BIG fan of mixing shades to make it work for you! ::yes::

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I started using the Complexion Rescue BB/CC/everything cream about a year ago because I was tempted to have something really fast. I hated it the first few times by itself because it made me look kind of shiny, but if I put just a teeeeeensy bit of the mineral foundation on top, it looks great, so that's my routine now. It's WAY faster than before, and that was only a minute or so. Now it just takes a few seconds to put my foundation on. I love it! I have always done the club, so I get three cream foundations and one powder with every shipment and lasts me about 4 months.

Thinking about switching from liquid foundation to BM after seeing it on several people and loving how it looked. I'm very fair and have combo skin. I'm a little concerned it may not look as good on my very fair skin as it did on them (they both a beautiful tanned skin). Looking at the starter kit but before investing $50 bucks was looking for some feedback.

Anyone use this, likes/dislikes?

I don't know anything about Bareminerals, but wanted to add Bye Bye Foundation for you to look in to. I know nothing about this product either but watched a little of the infomercial recently and it looked really nice on the ladies. Just want you to have another option to check out.

I just saw that commercial too! I have to admit it looks tempting to try! For those ladies on this thread that mentioned rosacea, it's worth looking into! Her demonstration was crazy!

I use it and like it. For a while, Clinique had a mineral foundation that I liked, but I went back to BM when they discontinued it. I also like their "warmth" powder.

Good idea to try it in the store--both to find the right color but also to learn technique and to see how it looks in general.

Disclaimer: I hate makeup and rarely wear it (as in once a year if I'm attending a wedding). But, a few years ago I tried BM foundation to try to even my skin tone. Holy crap, what a bunch of crap! It looked like I had a face full of flour no matter how much or how little I applied, it felt like I was grinding dirt into my skin, and it made my face itch/burn (the mineral veil was especially unpleasant).

I'm back now to my daily regimen of wash, moisturize, done.

For those of you that are older and have dry skin, the BM powder foundations can be drying. They do also make a liquid foundation in a ton of shades that don't look as drying on my face. I agree with going into the store for testing the products. I rarely like the colors that come in a "set". I've never liked the "warmth" or the mineral veil to finish or "set" my face. In the winter I actually prefer Mary Kay CC cream in Fair to Medium.

I bought the BM Started kit when it first came out. I loved the way it made me look. And then about 30 minutes later...... it felt like my face was on FIRE! I couldn't get it off fast enough and my face itched for what seemed like an eternity. Whatever is in it that I'm allergic to I never found out.

My skin is super sensitive and on the dry side. I like Clinique's Superpowder. The coverage is excellent with looking too made up. I don't use any other foundation or concealer with it. It works for me.

There's a lot of of people allergic to one ingredient in the Bare Minerals. I forget what it is. A search on the internet will likely bring it up. There are other mineral makeups that don't have it. I think Pur is one. I forget some of the others. For some reason, as sensitive as I am, this stuff has never bothered me (and I'm just now coming off a full torso rash from using Gain detergent). I did used to order Everyday Minerals on line, which is pretty good but I got tired of having to plan it out and order it as I'd rather just pick it up at the store when I need it.

Anyway, I also tried the BM liquid foundation and it didn't cover anything for me. I am loving my new Chanel liquid foundation though but at $60 a bottle I don't use it everyday.

LOL!!!!

Does anyone have recommendations for us fair skinned people?

I don't think it's a color thing with Bare Minerals, I think it's a skin type thing.
Just make sure to match your neck and get the right undertone for any foundation product.

It didnt work at all for me, but I can't just wear a powder or a powder foundation. It's Too much dry product for my skin.

Base products that work are a very individual thing. Good luck!

I use BM Matte in Fairly Light. I have middle-aged combo skin. I like it ok. It doesn't last the day, but then no makeup does with me. I'm not the type to carry makeup with me and reapply, though, so I just carry on.

ETA I have senstive skin and their primer irritated my skin. That could be part of the problem with staying power.

I have to use moisturizer first, and when my skin in dryer in winter sometimes I get that powdery look. I should try their liquid. I've tried clinique because that brand works well with my sensitive skin, but they don't have a shade that works for me. I looked like a bad spray tan or a ghost.

It may be worth trying a few more color options (or mixing if you'd buy 2). It still may not work but it could have been an undertone problem, not a color problem. (If you really like that foundation it may be worth a shot).

I wish all companies would put an indicator for undertones. Really I just wish everything came in every undertone lol. But at least let us know which is which!
