Remember when.....is someone cursed on TV that the complete word would be "bleeped" out? In some cases, their mouth would even be covered to prevent reading their lips.

Now, all they bleep out is the slightest milli-second of the word. They bleep out so little that the brain "hears" the word anyway.

I've been watching "I Love the 80's" on VH-1 off and on today...
they have a segment hosted by somebody gotfried entitled
"what the F****K". At the end of the segment, this phrase is uttered, with maybe the "u" bleeped out. Is is really necessary to use this language?

ok...I feel better now.

I dont have a bad mouth but it doesnt bother me if other people do as long as kids arnt around

It's so sad that the kids of today have to grow up with all this. We were so much more innocent than they are today because they are surrounded with it. I got an e mail that stated the FCC (I think) is planning on letting the F word be used on radio and TV. What is wrong with these people? There just aren't any morals anymore. It's bad enough with terror and war, we don't need this too. Remember when Mrs. Cunningham on Happy Days started wearing low cut dresses showing cleavage? That was considered in bad taste. Yikes!

I watched the 80's marathon today. It didn't bother me. I thought Gilbert Gottfreid was really funny.:D

I also dislike the language used so often today. I don't understand why comics think they are funnier if they use 4 letter words.

On the other hand I often wonder why I find this so offensive. They are after all just words. It is the intent and meaning we ascribe to them that is offensive.

How did some words become vulgar while synonyms are acceptable?

And on the subject of words.......why do people refer to something cheap or poorly made as a " mickey mouse " item????

This is why it doesn't bother me. And yet, hearing young kids say it does bother me. It doesn't make sense; just one of those things.

I don't like "bad" language either, and I hate hearing it. I don't watch tv shows that use it, rely on it, allow it.

Also, as for comics and other people in the entertainment field, using foul language is a cheap, easy way to get a person's attention. It takes MUCH more brains and talent to NOT use bad language and still be funny and entertaining. Example: Jerry Seinfeld. Eddie Murphy is extremely funny yet I can't stand it when he uses filthy language in his stand-up acts. He doesn't need to, he's funny enough without it.

In my everyday life, I'm not friends with people who use bad language. When I see parents cursing, especially in front of their kids, it really shows how low class they are.

I am totally on the flipside, as I am not really bothered by profanity.

My parents are not bothered by profanity and come to think of it, neither are my grandparents (though they tend to do it in Yiddish rather then English).

In our house, we can curse freely but that is INSIDE our house. Outside we have manners and keep our mouths shut.

Anyway, they are just words and I think in this day and age we have bigger fish to fry, don't you think?

Flame away.

To each his/her own but that's pretty extreme not to want to be friends with someone for that reason alone. Most people who use bad words occasionally will refrain if you let them know how you feel about it.

Again, to each his/her own but don't you think that's making a snap judgement of their character?

I noticed the same thing on Gone in 60 seconds and some of the other programming on TBS over the week.

I think what bothers me the worst is shows which are almost all bleeps. If there is that much cursing in it, don't bother showing it to start with.

ABSOLUTELY. Couldn't agree more.

My friend told me the other day that the FCC changed the rules and now will be allowing the "F" word on tv. I"m not sure if the stations will go along with it.

DH said when he was in Ireland, they have a lot of profanity on the TV

A lot more things bother me then profanity- Some times I have a potty mouth- just depends on the day and what is going on.

I try never to say bad words in front of the kids.. I do know they hear them at school. Not that is makes it right.

I do have friends that every other word is a bad word, and I love them dearly..
Then I have friends that wouldn't use the word "gosh" or "darn" because they think it's wrong.

Okay I sometimes have a potty mouth so the actual word doesn't bother me but not in front of my kids
They play that song She ...... hates me on the radio all the time
they barely beep the bad word. And the really annoying part is I like the song & I have to turn it so I don't sing along, bad words and all

What bothers me about it is that sometimes the beep is after they've already said the word. Just the other night hubby was watching something on TV while I was on the computer and I turned around to ask him if they had just said what I thought. They were singing a song with the f-word in it and it was beeped after the entire word was out. I just don't get it.

What gets me is that if they are going to beep the word, at least do it right. Why pretend you're going to beep it and leave most of it?

What really annoys me is hearing my youngest dd saying phrases she learned from her sister or school. TV is one thing, if I don't like it I can change the channel, but her sister and the kids at school?

I think the one instance of vulgar language that stands out in my mind was DMX?? on the pre American Music Awards show with Kimmel. they had to bleep out about 60% of the song. Now tell me why bother to air this when you know ahead of time that you'll have to bleep most of the performance??? Boggles the mind!!!
