Is it OK to bring my 14-month old to Disney barefoot? She is not walking yet. We do not have her in shoes at home. I was going to buy shoes just for the trip, but I think her big brother will just pull them off in the stroller and she will be very hot in the August heat. Thoughts? I don't want to gross anyone out with bare feet, but I also don't particularly want to deal with having her in shoes.

go ahead! my 18 months old does walk and I'm planning to keep her barefoot prety much for the same reasons, she will pull those shoes in no time, and to keep her confortable, the shoes will be in the diaper bag to used them when needed, I don't care what other people think of it.
PS: don't forget to apply sunscreen on those little feet:D

Bring something if she is going to walk around, we were told, by CMs, when DD#3 was there for her 1st trip at 11 mos, that she needed something on her feet when she was out of the stroller walking in a store. Plus the ground outside will be really hot.

I think that people wear shoes for more of their life than not in this society so children should enjoy bare feet especially if they are not of walking age. Yes to sunscreen and maybe a pair of sock slippers (you know the kind with leather soles?) for out of the stroller moments. There isn't much grass in the theme parks which is strange when you think on it and a something I just realised.
Oh and for the record I love the smell of baby feet, LOL.

There have been post on here before that toddlers were expected to have shoes on. A 14 month old, whether walking or not, is considered to be a toddler and would have to have shoes on when out of the stroller. That means shoes on for rides.

Yes we have been told to have shoes on our little one. At the time I was carrying her...she was not on the ground...and was a young toddler....So always have a pair in your bag just in case. I've heard different cms tell people over our 7 trips....but I wouldn't worry too much unless it's pointed out.

I would definitely have a pair in your bag. We have certainly seen barefoot babies but have heard stories of parents searching WDW stores for baby shoes because their toddler or even an infant were not allowed on rides without shoes. I would buy the softest coolest shoe you can find. Don't forget to sunscreen those little toes. Sometimes they are out of the range of the sun viser and I've seen feet on babies get sun burned.

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. Our ten month old has started taking steps, but I have no idea if he'll be walking on our next trip. I would have never thought it necessary to bring shoes for a pre-walker. I just bought him a pair for when he wants to cruise when we're out, but they really hamper his ability to move (he points his toes inward while wearing them).

He also wears 18 month clothes, so I'm sure we'd be told he has to wear shoes because he looks about twice his real age. I guess we'll be packing them in the diaper bag even if he's not walking yet.

I would definitely bring a pair- I tried to let my 10 month old play in the center baby section of the dumbo tent play area and was told she was not allowed if she did not have shoes on. I did not have any with me so she did not get to play and she was not very happy about that.

Boy, thanks for making me feel old.:) My Pediatrician specifically told me not to put shoes on until necessary-weather, walking, etc., and to let my kids go barefoot as much as possible, that it was better for them. Oh-come to think of it, that was over 35 years ago, and babies were also supposed to sleep on their stomachs and have bumper pads in their cribs.

Doctor's still recommended to have them barefoot unless shoes are necessary for safety/warmth, so not everything has changed :)

The other two things are definitely not recommended anymore!

sunburn my only thought ...sunscreen

We had a toddler lose a shoe in the park and we can to get him shoes/crocs at the store (they gave us a HUGE discount) so he could go on the rides and such. We were told it was a rule

I know enforcement is always spotty, but we never put shoes on our 13 month old during her visit. She wasn't walking so we didn't think to put shoes on. We probably had some with us in the diaper bag, but I can't remember. We had her in the stroller, in the carrier, and carried her.

My grandson is 2.5 but does not walk. He is cruising and we will be getting his gait trainer on Friday - we need next Thursday. He rarely wears shoes at home but we do have some for the parks. He is about the size of an average 11-12 mo old. My daughter has mainly Disney onesies for our trip - does he need shorts with them?

When Disney says 'shoes' don't go straight to hard sole walkers, LOL! Any of those sock-booties will do, even the ones with the gripper dots on the bottom that my kids lived in. Saw lots of babies and toddlers in those last week. Lots of cute Minnie ones with bows :)

We were told our 18m old daughter needed shoes to do a meet and greet with Belle in Epcot. The CM at the end of the line had taken our stroller (with shoes on top) so we didn't have shoes for her. We were able to hold her and still meet her, but we weren't allowed to put her down on the ground.

Definitely bring some type of "shoe"!

I'd bring at least some kind of soft booties (Like Robeez) and socks for her in case you want to let her down at some point, and I think when my son was that age, they told me he needed shoes on some of the rides.
