I use Bare Minerals and love it - and now of course all the major brands are coming out with their own mineral makeups. I've seen a few that intrigue me, mainly because of the price ($10-15 less than Bare Escentuals) and the fact that I can buy them at Target instead of ordering or going to the BE store at the Mall of America (car day trip). I noticed one in particular (Physicians Formula I think) that has no talc in it and I liked that. They have foundation AND a "mineral veil" type as well for around $10 or so.

So - anyone who uses Bare Minerals try the major brand ones yet? If so, are they comparable or cheap knockoffs?

Ive found the drugstore brands are just knock offs not worth paying anything for IMO...

BUT - a cheaper alternative - and one I actually like BETTER then BE is http://www.everydayminerals.com/

Theyll send you a generous free sample if you pay $3 bucks for shipping. :thumbsup2

I haven't actually used Bare Minerals yet, but have been using the Loreal version and LOVE IT!

I did not like the Neutrogena ones at all. But I use Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer under my BE everyday so I thought I would give it a shot. I might try the Maybelline ones but if I do I will buy it at CVS because they take returns.

I like the Physician's Formula Version "Mineral Wear"

I'm with CathrynRose. I used to use Bare Escentuals, but then tried Everyday Minerals, and I like it even better. If you aren't sure, go online and get the free sample kit. You get 2 foundations, a blush, a concealer and something else. I've actually gotten several free kits. Everytime I order an item, I get another free kit to try additional shades. Their customer service is outstanding too. Even paying the nominal shipping, I still save a LOT of money over Bare Escentuals.

Do the drugstore brands have a lot of fillers? How finely are they milled? I haven't tried them, but have been curious, too. However, I have a BE and a Sephora at the mall I go to frequently...so not as much need. I do order from QVC, too...and shipping is quick.

CathrynRose is a makeup junkie (I've heard ;) ), so I bet her advise is spot on.

Speaking of BE....just bought the basic eyes kit at Costco for $38, not sure of the kit name, but it was one I didn't have.

I've never used BE, but have used the Physicians Formula and Loreal. I thought the PF looked "cakier" than the Loreal.

I have not bought any of the BE, etc. brands (I know a makeup artist that has his own line & it is GREAT), but wanted to second the idea to check out Costco. I've seen BE sets there *and* Physician's Formula as well. Costco also usually has a very nice brush set w/ carrying case, it's only about $20...I got it to have some backups, couldn't resist the price.

About the BE set... One time I was at Costco & I remember one woman walking by the display and stopping dead in her tracks. She'd just bought a set off of TV & it was much more expensive.

agnes!

I know! My mom had just bought it... I've actually converted her recently and a sil.

what line do you use?

I've been using BE and tried the Physicians Formula because it was cheaper. I didn't like the coverage of the Physicians Formula, much cakier (is that a word?).
I have had a problem lately with my BE containers getting kind of clogged up and not much will come out of the holes. I don't know what's up with that since we don't have much humidity right now.

I think I should try the Everyday Minerals. Thanks!

I use Everydayminerals.com and I love it! The prices are great and so is the makeup! :thumbsup2

I used to use BM religiously. Then one day, I had to cover meeting at work and needed to spruce up my face. The BM store is too far to go to, so I ran across the street to Walgreens and picked up Loreal's version, and I fell in love with it. I always felt the BM wasn't giving me enough coverage and making my skin tones even, and when I tried the Loreal, I was right.

Another time I was out of mineral veil, so I went to ULTA and they too were out of Mineral Veil, so I bought the ULTA brand, and guess what - I fell in love with that too.

So in summary - I use Loreal for foundation, BM warmth (you can't beat that product anywhere) and ULTA for finishing.

Costco carries Bare Minerals?! I gotta check that out!

I just received Leeza Gibbons' Sheer Whatever (can't think of the name). I haven't tried it yet (they tell you to match your skintone in "natural" light. It's dark out when I put my makeup on!) It came with a cool brush & container - you can put the powder in the handle of the brush and apply it that way. Looks like a great idea for on-the-go times. I'll have to see if it works as good as it sounds.

My first experience with mineral makeup was with the Leeza Gibbons Sheer Cover. I really like the tones of that makeup much better than BE but it's a pain in the butt to order Sheer Cover so I gave up. By the way, the travel brush is convenient but I don't think it works as well as a kabuki brush so you may notice that your coverage is not as good. I took it on travel and was disappointed with the results.

I want to chime in on the Everyday Minerals. It is really nice. I've had to order a few sample kits to find a foundation color I like, but that's okay--it's affordable. I find the coverage to be a bit more natural looking that BE (it's much less orangey) and it doen't cake is much. It seems to be more finely milled. When I open the containers I get a lot of "float" with it if you know what I mean. The BE particles are heavier.

I use both interchangeably as sometimes I'm lazy about on line ordering, but I have an Ulta that is only 5 minutes from my house.

Let me ask you ladies something, I have sensitive skin that breaks out pretty easy on my face (lucky me) so I never wear make up. Would a mineral makeup work for me? As I'm getting older (I'm 28) I'm noticing that my once clear skin is looking a bit blotchy and I'm not a fan.

yes! that is one of the reasons i switched to minerals (and the reason i asked about additives).

an estitician i used to go to told me that the finer milled are better (and be is not the finest....i forget the brand she preferred, but it was more $$).

Ooh, a make-up thread. I'm so excited!:cool1: I've lately become obsessed with BE. I got the starter set in Sept. For Christmas my Mom gave me a set and a gift card to get the eye starter set from Sephora. I'm so sad, we don't have Costco here. :sad1:

I need to do something about my brows. Have any of ya'll used the BE brow kit?

Now ya'll say there's something better and cheaper? Unbelievable.

It might - everyone is so different.

As I mentioned earlier - order a sample from everydayminerals.com and try it out! :thumbsup2
